2017 Charleston Battery Season
The 2017 Charleston Battery season was the club's 25th year of existence, their 14th season in the second tier of the United States Soccer Pyramid, and their first in the second tier since 2009. It was their seventh season in the United Soccer League as part of the Eastern Conference. The Battery finished the season 3rd overall in the league, and 2nd in the East. They lost in the first round of the 2017 USL Playoffs. The Charleston Battery are an American professional association football, soccer club based in Charleston, South Carolina, and member of the USL Championship. Founded in 1993, the Battery are one of the oldest continuously operating professional soccer clubs in the United States, tied with the Richmond Kickers. Charleston are one of the more successful lower division soccer clubs in the United States, having won the USISL Pro League in 1996, the USL A-League in 2003, and the final season of the USL Second Division in 2010. Forrest Baldwin Lasso (born May 11, 1993) is an American soccer player who plays for USL Championship club Tampa Bay Rowdies. Early life Lasso played high school soccer at Needham B. Broughton High School. During his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, Lasso won conference championships, which advanced the team to the state tournament those years. Odisnel Cooper Despaigne (born March 31, 1992) is a Cuban international footballer. Club career Cooper played for hometown club FC Camaguey in Cuba. The UAB Blazers men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As of the upcoming 2022 season, the college soccer program competes in the NCAA Division I American Athletic Conference (The American). History UAB began a men's soccer program back in 1979. Throughout its history, UAB has enjoyed great success in the men's soccer program. The men's team has been in the NCAA Tournament a total of 7 times including 2 Sweet Sixteen appearances and 1 Elite Eight appearance in 1999. Joe Kuzminsky (born January 26, 1994) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a goalkeeper. Career Kuzminsky played five years of college soccer at the University of Alabama at Birmingham between 2012 and 2016, including a red-shirted year in 2012. Kuzminsky also played with USL PDL side Real Colorado Foxes in 2014. Kuzminsky signed with USL Championship club Charleston Battery on March 21, 2017.
