2017 AFL Season
The 2017 AFL season was the 121st season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior men's Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured eighteen clubs, ran from 23 March until 30 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. The premiership was won by the Richmond Football Club for the eleventh time, after it defeated by 48 points in the 2017 AFL Grand Final. Rule changes The following amendments were made to the Laws of the Game for the 2017 season: *Rules relating to around-the-ground ruck contests were amended such that only the nominated ruckman for each team is permitted in the contest, eliminating the option for another player to enter the contest and take the tap, otherwise known as the "third man up" strategy. AFL Women's (AFLW) is Australia's national semi-professional Australian rules football in Australia, Australian rules football competition for women's Australian rules football, female players. The 2017 AFL Women's season, first season of the league in February and March 2017 had eight teams; the league expanded to 10 teams in the 2019 season, 14 teams in 2020 and 18 teams in 2022. Blacktown International Sportspark
Blacktown International Sportspark (BISP) (officially known as Blacktown Olympic Park) is a multi-sports venue located in Rooty Hill, a suburb in Sydney, Australia. The venue includes two cricket grounds, which have also been used for Australian rules football, an athletics track and field, three baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, four softball diamonds, administration centers and park land. It was constructed for the 2000 Sydney Olympics to host softball and baseball events. The Great Barrier Reef Arena (also known as the Ray Mitchell Oval and Harrup Park) is an Australian rules football and a cricket ground in the city of Mackay, Queensland, Australia. Casey Fields is a $30 million, 70 hectare multi-sports complex in the City of Casey at Cranbourne East, a southeastern suburb of Melbourne. Kombumerri Park
Kombumerri Park (known commercially as Subaru Oval) is a multi-sports venue in Mermaid Waters, a suburb in the Gold Coast, Australia. It includes an Australian Rules Football and Cricket ground. Before British colonisation, a large area around Kombumerri Park was used as a cemetery by the resident Kombumerri clan of Indigenous Australians. The oldest known interment was conducted around 1,300 years ago and it was still being used as a ceremonial burial ground by Aboriginal people up til the 1880s. A major excavation of the site in the 1960s found the remains of least 200 people. These were repatriated to the local Aboriginal community and reburied at Kombumerri Park in the 1980s.
