2016–17 Metal Ligaen Season
The 2016–17 Metal Ligaen season was the 60th season of ice hockey in Denmark. Ten teams participated in the league. Esbjerg Energy defended their 2016 Danish championship title by defeating Gentofte Stars four games to one in the finals. The regular season begun on 23 September 2016 and ended on 28 February 2017. The last final was played on 16 April 2017. Metal Ligaen
The Superisligaen, known as the Metal Ligaen for sponsorship reasons, is the highest-level ice hockey league in Denmark. The league consists of 9 professional teams. Teams from the Superisligaen can participate in the IIHF's annual Champions Hockey League (CHL), competing for the European Trophy. Participation is based on the strength of the various leagues in Europe (excluding the European/Asian Kontinental Hockey League). Going into the 2022–23 CHL season, the Superisligaen was ranked the No. 13 league in Europe, allowing them to send their top team to compete in the CHL. Gigantium
The Gigantium (called ''Sparekassen Danmark Arena'' for sponsoring reasons), in Aalborg, Denmark, is a large, rentable faire building, which hosts a large variety of concerts, markets and exhibitions, among other things. It has a capacity of 5,500 people. For concerts, the capacity is 8,500 people. In addition, there is an ice rink/arena for training purposes, a swimming pool and an athletics hall within the sports complex. The main arena building was severely damaged by a fire on 5 July 2017. Tenants The main use of the arena is sport, and it is home to the Danish Handball League club Aalborg Håndbold and the elite Ice Hockey team Aalborg Pirates. Peter Quenneville
Peter Quenneville (born March 9, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing for Kiekko-Espoo in the Liiga. Playing career Quenneville played junior hockey initially with the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) before moving to the United States Hockey League to play with the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Quenneville was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the seventh round, 195th overall, in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. After two seasons playing primarily in the ECHL with the Rapid City Rush, on June 19, 2021, Quenneville again embarked on a career abroad, agreeing to a one-year contract with German second-tier club, Lausitzer Füchse, of the DEL2. Harrison Reed (ice Hockey)
Harrison Reed (born January 18, 1988) is a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who is currently playing for Hamburg Crocodiles in the Oberliga (Ger.3). In his career, he played 208 games in the AHL and 50 games in Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Playing career Reed was drafted 93rd overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes. Reed played major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights, Sarnia Sting and Guelph Storm. After his final year of eligibility with the Storm in 2007–08, Harrison signed with the Hurricanes to a three-year entry-level contract on May 22, 2008. Tony Romano (ice Hockey)
Tony Romano (born January 5, 1988) is an American former professional ice hockey player from Smithtown, New York. He is last played for Stavanger Oilers of the Norwegian GET-ligaen. Playing career Romano was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the sixth round (178th overall pick) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to the draft, Romano graduated from St. Anthony's High School on Long Island, and played for the New York Bobcats of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League, scoring 50 goals in the 2005–06 season. After being drafted, he spent the following year playing for Cornell University, where he led the team's rookies with a total of nine goals and ten assists. Romano then went on to play for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League during the 2007–08 season, citing the switch in leagues due to his limited number of games played in Cornell. Rødovre Skøjte Arena (as a result of a name sponsorship also known as Rødovre Centrum Arena), is an ice hockey arena in Rødovre, Greater Copenhagen. The arena, inaugurated on 6 February 1995, is home to both the Rødovre Mighty Bulls and the parent club RSIK and is used for both figure skating and ice hockey. KVIK Hockey Arena
KVIK Hockey Arena is a hockey arena in Herning, Denmark. It is used by Herning Blue Fox. The complex consists of two rinks, KVIK Hockey Arena that has a capacity of 4120, where 420 of them are seats, and the new training arena that has a capacity of 200. Renovation It was decided in June 2016 that the 30 year old arena wasn't good enough as a training facility for the 2018 IIHF World Championship which is set in Herning and Copenhagen, Denmark.
