2016–17 Handbollsligan
The 2016–17 Handbollsligan is the 83rd season of the Handbollsligan, Swedish's top-tier handball league. A total of fourteen teams contest this season's league, which began on 13 September 2016 and is scheduled to conclude on 27 May 2017. IFK Kristianstad are the defending champions, having beaten Alingsås HK 27–18 in the previous season's final. Format The first 7 rounds consist on a round-robin tournament with 2 groups of 7 teams each. Then, the competition format for the 2016–17 season consists of a home-and-away round-robin system. The top 8 teams qualifiy directly to quarterfinals, while teams ranked 11th to 13th play a play-down round against teams ranked 2nd to 4th from the lower division. Handbollsligan ''(literally, "The Handball league")'' is the highest league in the league system of Swedish handball, and comprises the top 14 Swedish handball teams. The first season began in 1931–32. The season ends with a playoff. Structure The season starts in September with a regular season comprising 14 teams meeting each other twice. A total of 26 rounds. The eight best teams after the regular season qualifies for the play-off. The 14th team is relegated, and the 11th, 12th and 13th team plays matches against the second, third and fourth from Allsvenskan to qualify for next season's Handbollsligan. The season ends with the finals in the beginning of May and the winning team qualifies directly to EHF European League and the losing team qualifies for the EHF European Cup. Ystad (; older da, Ysted) is a town and the seat of Ystad Municipality, in Scania County, Sweden. Ystad had 18,350 inhabitants in 2010. Lisebergshallen
Lisebergshallen was a multi-purpose venue in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was located at the entrance of the amusement park Liseberg. It was built in 1980 and was used as entertainment centre for sports competitions, charity events and concerts. In 2019, it was demolished. Samskolan uses the venue regularly every year at Christmas for their annual "Folkdans". Handball team Redbergslids IK used Lisebergshallen as home arena. Redbergslids IK (RIK), is a handball team from Gothenburg, Sweden founded in 1916. Redbergslids is the most successful club in Sweden, having won 20 Swedish Championship titles. Home games are played in Prioritet Serneke Arena. Redbergslid is the only Scandinavian club to win the EHF Champions League (1959). They also reached the final of the EHF Cup Winner's Cup in 2003.
