The 2016–17 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 36th official World Cup season in cross-country skiing for men and women. The season started on 26 November 2016 in Ruka, Finland, and ended on 19 March 2017 in Quebec City, Canada. Martin Johnsrud Sundby
Martin Johnsrud Sundby (born 26 September 1984) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier who competed between 2003 and 2021. He is a two time Olympic champion at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the team sprint and relay and was also a silver and bronze medalist in the 30 km skiathlon in 2014 and 2018. Sundby is a 4-time world champion, winning his sole individual gold medal at the 15 km at the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld. In 2014, he became the first Norwegian to win the Tour de Ski, a feat he repeated in 2016. He also won the overall world cup in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Career Sundby got his international breakthrough when he won his first individual victory on 30 November 2008 in Kuusamo, Finland. The victory was regarded as a major surprise, despite Sundby delivering several solid displays in earlier races. Sindre Bjørnestad Skar (born 22 January 1992) is a Norway, Norwegian Cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier. At the 2011 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships, 2011 Junior World Championships he won two gold medals, one in relay and one in 10 km. He then took one silver and three bronze medals at the 2012 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships, 2012 Junior World Championships. He made his FIS Cross-Country World Cup debut in February 2011 in Drammen, where he also collected his first World Cup points with a 28th place finish. He later took his first top-10 placement with a tenth place in Lahti in March 2013. He represents the sports club Bærums Verk IF. Finn Hågen Krogh (born 6 September 1990) is a Norwegian Cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier who has competed at FIS Cross-Country World Cup since 2011. Career Krogh was born in Alta (town)f, Alta. He is of Sami people, Sami and Norwegian descent. Krogh represents Tverrelvdalen IL. In addition to being a cross-country skier, he played for Tverrelvdalen's senior football team in the 3. divisjon before he had to choose between football and skiing. As Krogh was selected for the youth national team in cross-country skiing, he chose to quit football, but said in an interview with TV 2 (Norway), Norwegian TV 2 in 2011 that he believes he could have been a professional Tippeligaen player if he had chosen football ahead of skiing. Anders Gløersen
Anders Gloeersen (, born 22 May 1986) is a Norwegian cross-country skier who has competed since 2005. He has five World Cup victories, earning four of them in the individual sprint events (2007, 2008, 2010, 2013), and one in a 15 km freestyle race in Davos (2014). He won a bronze medal in the 15 km freestyle race in Falun the next year, and replaced Sundby in the third leg of the relay. Matti Heikkinen
Matti Heikkinen (born 19 December 1983 in Kajaani) is a Finnish former cross-country skier and World Champion who competed from 2002 to 2019. Career Heikkinen won his first World Championship at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Holmenkollen 2011. Winning 15 km, he is the first Finnish men's World Champion for over a decade. He also won two bronze medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, earning them in the 15 km and 4 × 10 km relay events. Carl Marcus Joakim Hellner (born 25 November 1985) is a Swedish former cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier who competed between 2003 and 2018. He retired at the end of the 2017-18 FIS Cross-Country World Cup, 2017-18 FIS World Cup season. Athletic career Hellner had a total of seven victories in the junior levels of cross-country skiing up to 30 km from 2003 to 2005. Teodor Anders Peterson (born 1 May 1988 in Umeå) is a Swedish former cross-country skier that had sprint as his best discipline. Career He debuted in the World Cup on 7 March 2009 in Lahti in the 2008–09 season. Peterson made his breakthrough in the 2011–12 season. He won the first sprint race of the season, on 25 November 2011 in Ruka, Finland. The weekend after, in Düsseldorf, he won the team sprint together with Jesper Modin, representing Sweden. Emil Iversen (born 12 August 1991) is a Norwegian cross-country skier who represents IL Varden. He is 2019 World Champion in team sprint and 4 × 10 km relay. Iivo Henrik Niskanen (born 12 January 1992) is a Finnish cross-country skier who has competed in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup since 2011. He is a three-time Olympic champion. Career Iivo Niskanen made his individual World Cup debut on 12 March 2011, when he finished 69th in a 20 km skiathlon in Lahti, Finland. He had his breakthrough at the international level when he won the 15-kilometre classic race at the 2014 under-23 World Championships in Val di Fiemme on 30 January 2014.
