2016–17 DHB-Pokal
The 2017 DHB-Pokal was the 41st edition of the tournament. Format The first round was split in a north and a south part and played in mini tournaments where only the winner advance to the round of 16. From there on a knockout system was used to determine the winner. The final four will be played on one weekend in Hamburg. Bergischer Handball-Club 06 is a German handball club based in the cities of Wuppertal and Solingen that competes in the Handball-Bundesliga. History The club originates from a 2006 contract between Stefan Adam, then chairman of LTV Wuppertal, and SG Solingen, incorporating the Wuppertal club's management, squad and main sponsor into the Solingen-based club and renaming it to officially represent the entire Bergisches Land region. In 2011, "Die Löwen" were promoted to the Handball-Bundesliga for the first time since their establishment in 2006, though they were relegated in the first season. TSV Hannover-Burgdorf is a handball club from Hannover, Germany, and is competing in the Handball-Bundesliga. History The team is known as DIE RECKEN. The origins of the club lie with the sports association Freie Turnerschaft Burgdorf, which was founded in 1922, with a handball department. In 1946 the Turn- und Sportvereinigung Burgdorf was founded. TSV Burgdorf became TSV Hannover-Burgdorf Handball GmbH in 2005. The matches of the top teams have been played since 2005 in one of the two sports arenas in Hannover, the Swiss Life Hall with a capacity of 4,460 spectators, or the ZAG-Arena where 10,767 spectators can cheer on the team. SC DHfK Leipzig Handball is a German handball team from Leipzig, Germany, that plays in the Handball-Bundesliga. It was one of the strongest GDR clubs in late 1950s and 1960s. History The SC DHfK Leipzig was founded in 1954 as a sports club of the ''Deutsche Hochschule für Körperkultur'' (German University for Physical Culture). During the time in the GDR, the club's handball section won six national championships (1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966) and won the GDR Cup twice. In addition, it won the EHF Champions League in the 1965/1966 season and defeated Budapest Honvéd in the final on 22 April 1966 (16:14). In 1975, the authorities decided to dissolve the handball section and transfer all the players to another club in the city, SC Leipzig.
