2016 World Taekwondo Grand Prix
The 2016 World Taekwondo Grand Prix was the 4th edition of the World Taekwondo Grand Prix. As 2016 was an Olympic year, unlike in 2015, the series consisted of a single Grand Prix Final event, and was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 9 to 10 December 2016. World Taekwondo Grand Prix
The World Taekwondo Grand Prix is a taekwondo competition introduced by the World Taekwondo Federation in 2013 to provide a homogeneous system for qualification to the Olympic taekwondo tournament. It consists of four competitions per year in each Olympic weight category event. Olympic events occur at approximately half the weight classes as WTF-organised tournaments. Venues The most common format of the event has been a series of three Grand Prix, followed by a Grand Final. The first Grand Prix in 2013, and the event in 2016, were single leg competitions, while the 2018 edition had a 4th Grand Prix leg before the Grand Final. The original Grand Prix was held in Manchester, England, recognising the sport's popularity in the United Kingdom, and Manchester remains the most visited venue, with 5 Grand Prix events, while the United Kingdom is also the most visited country, with six events. Zheng Shuyin
Zheng Shuyin (; born 1 May 1994) is a Chinese taekwondo athlete. She represented China at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, in the women's +67 kg, and won the gold medal, which China has not won since 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens. In May 2019 at the 2019 World Taekwondo Championships, Zheng lost the final against Bianca Walkden for the women's heavyweight title. Zheng was disqualified despite leading 20-10 because Walkden repeatedly forced Zheng out of the ring to accumulate Zheng's penalty points. In September 2019 at Chiba, four months after winning the controversial goal medal in Manchester, Walkden was defeated 7-5 by Zheng Shuyin. Bianca Cook, also known as Bianca Walkden (born 29 September 1991) is a British taekwondo athlete and Olympian. She is a three-time World champion, twice World Grand Prix champion, four-time European champion and a double Olympic medallist. Chuang Chia-chia (; born 13 May 1989) is a Taiwanese taekwondo practitioner. Chuang later served as director of the Taoyuan Department of Sports. In March 2019, Chuang disclosed that she had been suspended from competition for a period of two years since 3 October 2017. Hedaya Malak Wahba ( ar, هداية ملاك وهبة, born 21 April 1993) is an Egyptian taekwondo practitioner. Jade Louise Jones (born 21 March 1993) is a Welsh taekwondo athlete.
