2016 Toronto International Film Festival
The 41st annual Toronto International Film Festival was held from 8 to 18 September 2016. The first announcement of films to be screened at the festival took place on 26 July. Almost 400 films were shown. Awards The festival's final awards were announced on 18 September. Jury members Platform Jury The jury for the Platform section (in its second year) comprised Brian de Palma (American director), Mahamat-Saleh Haroun (Chadian director), and Zhang Ziyi (Chinese actress). The Platform section (named for Jia Zhangke's film '' Platform'') consists of "12 films of high artistic merit that demonstrate a strong directorial vision". The Magnificent Seven (2016 Film)
''The Magnificent Seven'' is a 2016 American Western (genre), Western action film directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk. It is a remake of the The Magnificent Seven, 1960 film, which itself was a remake of Akira Kurosawa's film ''Seven Samurai''. The film stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, and Peter Sarsgaard. It was the final film of composer James Horner, who died the previous year after composing part of the score. His friend Simon Franglen completed the music. Principal photography began on May 18, 2015, north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Raoul Peck
Raoul Peck (born 9 September 1953 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti) is a Haitian filmmaker of both documentary and feature films. He is known for using historical, political, and personal characters to tackle and recount societal issues and historical events. Peck was Haiti's Minister of Culture from 1996 to September 1997. His film '' I Am Not Your Negro'' (2016), about the life of James Baldwin and race relations in the United States, was nominated for an Oscar in January 2017 and won a César Award in France. Peck's HBO documentary miniseries, '' Exterminate All the Brutes'' (2021), received a Peabody Award. Julia Ducournau
Julia Ducournau (; born 18 November 1983) is a French film director and screenwriter. She made her feature film debut in 2016 with '' Raw''.
