2016 State Basketball League Season
The 2016 State Basketball League season was the 28th season of the State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season began on Friday 18 March and ended on Saturday 30 July. The finals began on Friday 5 August and concluded with the women's grand final on Friday 2 September and the men's grand final on Saturday 3 September. Pre-season The 2016 SBL Pre-Season Blitz was held at Warwick Stadium over Saturday 5 March and Sunday 6 March. Regular season The regular season began on Friday 18 March and ended on Saturday 30 July after 20 rounds of competition. The Stirling Senators entered the 2016 season with a renovated Warwick Stadium, while the Perth Redbacks moved home to the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre after a trial year at Curtin University in 2015. State Basketball League
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. Lakeside Lightning
Lakeside Lightning is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is owned and managed by Lakeside Baptist Church. The Lightning play their home games at Lakeside Recreation Centre. Club history Background The Lakeside Recreation Centre was opened in 1992. The first Lakeside Lightning junior teams competed at the Basketball WA Championships in 1993, which was followed by junior teams entering the Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) for the first time in 1995. Rhys Anthony Vague (born 17 January 1996) is an Australian professional basketball player for Tokyo United of the B.League. He made his debut for his hometown Perth Wildcats in the National Basketball League (NBL) as a development player in 2014. Ben Purser (born 24 February 1990) is an Australian former basketball player. He spent 16 seasons with the Perry Lakes Hawks of the NBL1 West, making his debut in 2008 and playing through until his retirement in 2023. Jourdan Kevan Tardieu DeMuynck (born September 29, 1990) is an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Chabot College and Prairie View A&M. He played college basketball for Fairfield Stags men's basketball, Fairfield University before playing professionally in Austria and Australia. Louella Brooke Tomlinson (born 8 April 1988) is an Australian former professional basketball player. She retired in June 2021. Early life and career Tomlinson was born and raised in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy, Victoria. The WA Basketball Centre (also known by its sponsored name, the Bendat Basketball Centre) is a multi-purpose stadium located in Perth, Western Australia, catering primarily for basketball.
