The 2016 Shanghai Rolex Masters was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the eighth edition of the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, classified as an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the 2016 ATP World Tour. ATP World Tour Masters 1000
The ATP 1000 events, also known as ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, are an annual series of nine tennis tournaments featuring the top-ranked players on the ATP Tour since its inception in 1990. The ATP 1000 tournaments, sitting below the Grand Slam tournaments and the year-end championships, make up the most coveted trophies on the annual ATP Tour calendar. Marin Čilić (; born 28 September 1988) is a Croatian professional tennis player.
