2016 National Rugby Championship
The 2016 National Rugby Championship (known as the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship for sponsorship reasons) was the third season of Australia's National Rugby Championship. It involved eight professional rugby union teams, one team fewer than in the previous two seasons. The competition kicked off on 27 August 2016. Teams A major change was made for the 2016 season with the scrapping of the Sydney Stars team. The Australian Rugby Union did not renew their licence for the competition to consolidate playing strength of the teams in New South Wales. The North Harbour Rays subsequently changed their name to become the Sydney Rays. Prior to the season it was also reported that the Canberra Vikings would be renamed the Canberra Kookaburras in a return to the traditional name of the ACT team, but this change was postponed until at least the 2017 season. Nic Stirzaker
Nic Stirzaker (born 8 March 1991) is an Australian rugby union footballer. His regular playing position is scrum-half and he currently plays for the Montauban in the Pro D2. Prior to that he represented the Rebels in Super Rugby and Melbourne Rising in the National Rugby Championship and Bristol Bears in Premiership Rugby. Early life Stirzaker was born in England to South African parents, but was raised in Australia from the age of two. He is one of three brothers and developed his love of Rugby at Knox Grammar School in Sydney. Zane Hilton
Zane Hilton (born 1981) is an Australian professional rugby union coach. He is currently an assistant coach of the Super Rugby team the Melbourne Rebels. He was appointed as head coach of the Melbourne Rising team in Australia's National Rugby Championship in 2015. Hilton began his rugby coaching career as manager of the Regional College for the Queensland Reds from 2002 to 2006. He was an assistant coach at Italian club Benetton in Treviso for the 2006–07 season and at University of Queensland for 2007 and 2008. James Tuttle (rugby Union)
James Tuttle (born 13 May 1996) is an Australian rugby union player. He is currently contracted to the Melbourne Rebels after previously playing for the Queensland Reds. Tuttle attended St Joseph's College, Nudgee and represented Queensland and Australia at schoolboy rugby in 2013. He joined Queensland club side GPS, and his performances in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition led to his signing with the Queensland Country team for the inaugural season of the National Rugby Championship (NRC) in 2014. Toutai Kefu
Toutai Kefu (born 8 April 1974) is a Tonga-born rugby coach, who earned 60 caps playing at number eight for the Australian national team (the Wallabies). Kefu is currently the head coach of the Tongan national team having previously coached them as a caretaker in 2012. He is also the Assistant Coach of the First 15 at Iona College. Sam Talakai (born 4 September 1991), is an Australian rugby union player of Tongan descent. His usual position is tighthead prop. He plays for in the National Rugby Championship, the Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby and the Australian National Team, the Wallabies. Family and early life Talakai was born in Australia. Rodney Seib (born 1975) is an Australian professional rugby union coach and a former player for Queensland Reds and Glasgow Warriors. He also played for Australia in rugby sevens. Family and early life Rod Seib attended Brisbane State High School, graduating in 1992. His father, Ian Seib, played first-class cricket for Queensland in the 1970s. Paul Asquith
Paul Asquith (born 12 August 1993) is an Australian professional rugby union player. His primary position is centre, but is also an accomplished fly-half and fullback who can also play on the wing. Career Asquith played his junior Rugby union for Kiama, New South Wales and junior Rugby league for his home town Jamberoo, New South Wales as well as Kiama. John Muggleton
John Muggleton (born 16 January 1960) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who represented the Parramatta Eels in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership, New South Wales in State of Origin competition and the Australian national team (1982).
