2016 Missouri Elections
The 2016 Missouri elections took place on November 8, 2016. Missouri Republican Party, Republicans swept all statewide offices up for election, expanding their footprint in the state. The only two remaining Missouri Democratic Party, Democratic statewide officeholders after this cycle were U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill and State Auditor Nicole Galloway. Presidential Republican candidate Donald Trump carried the state by a wide margin. Democrat Hillary Clinton received 37.87% of the vote to Trump's 56.38%. Clinton's performance in the state was the worst for a Democratic presidential nominee since that of George McGovern in 1972 United States presidential election in Missouri, 1972. Teresa L. Hensley (born 1959) is an American lawyer who is the former prosecuting attorney for Cass County, Missouri. She was the Democratic Party's nominee for Missouri's 4th congressional district in 2012 and for Missouri Attorney General in 2016, losing both times by large margins. Law career Hensley earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law, before teaching a criminal-law class at William Jewell College. Eric Robert Greitens (born April 10, 1974) is an American businessman, author, former politician and former Navy SEAL, who served as the 56th governor of Missouri from January 2017 until June 2018, when he resigned that month amid allegations of sexual assault and campaign finance impropriety. He is a member of the Republican Party. Born and raised in St. Louis, Greitens graduated from Duke University in 1996 and received a doctorate in 2000 from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, as a Rhodes scholar.
