2016 LINAFOOT (Chad)
The 2016 LINAFOOT was supposed to be the 2nd season of the LINAFOOT, the top Chadian league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2015. Gazelle were the defending champions. The season started on 28 July 2016. However, the championship was interrupted due financial difficulties, at the end of October. Events In January 2016 the FTFA decided not to organise playoff for the ligue relegation and promotion from lower division, due to lack of time and finances. Instead, new rules were applied: a) the club from N'Djamena which finished 5th in the previous championship will be relegated to lower division, and the champion of Ligue de Football de N’Djamena will replace it; b) the champions of the regional leagues (Abéché – Mongo – Sarh – Moundou – Doba – Bongor – Biltine – Amtiman – Koumra and Pala) will be promoted to the first division, meaning that the first division was supposed to have 16 clubs. Chad Premier League (french: Ligue Nationale de Football, also known as LINAFOOT) is a Chadian league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Chadian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Contested by 12 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Division 2. Unlike the 1st LINAFOOT edition (in 2015) organised as a full national championship and won by Gazelle FC, the last three editions were organized under the play-off formula. Since the inception of the Chad Premier League in 1988, eight clubs have won the title: Renaissance (7), Elect-Sport (6), Tourbillon (5), Gazelle (4), Foullah Edifice (3), AS CotonTchad (2), Postel 2000 (2), Renaissance (Abéché) (2). Foullah Edifice Football Club is a football (soccer) club from Chad based in N'Djamena. They had a few Chadian national team players, like Mbaya Brice, Massama Asselmo, Ferdinand Gassina and Hassan Hissein. The club's colours are sky blue and white. History Foullah Edifice won the national championship in 2011, 2013 and 2014. In 2011, they played in a Cup and Supercup final, which they lost to RFC. Elect-Sport FC is a football (soccer) club from Chad based in N'Djamena. It plays its home matches on Stade Omnisports Idriss Mahamat Ouya in N'Djamena. The 2017 CAF Champions League (officially the 2017 Total CAF Champions League for sponsorship reasons) was the 53rd edition of Africa's premier club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the 21st edition under the current CAF Champions League title.
