Peping Cojuangco
José "Peping" Sumulong Cojuangco Jr. (born September 19, 1934) is a Filipino former congressman and the 9th President of the Philippine Olympic Committee from 2004 to 2018. He is a member of the influential Cojuangco political family. Early life Cojuangco was born on September 19, 1934, to José Cojuangco Sr. and Demetria Sumulong. Political career Local government official in Paniqui, Tarlac Cojuangco served as a member of the municipal council of Paniqui, Tarlac from 1955 to 1957. He became Vice Mayor of the same town in 1957 and served the term until 1959. Cojuangco was elected as Mayor of Paniqui in 1959 and served until 1961. Congressman (1960s) In 1961, Cojuangco was elected as a Member of the Philippine House of Representatives representing the First District of the province of Tarlac. Alaska Aces (PBA)
The Alaska Aces were a professional basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association since 1986 under the ownership of Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) and the owner of 14 PBA championships, tied with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the Magnolia Hotshots for the second-most titles overall. They are one of the most popular teams in the league and the Philippines. The Aces won nine PBA championships in the 1990s, including a rare grand slam (winning three championships in one season) during the 1996 season, joining the Crispa Redmanizers (1976, 1983), San Miguel Beermen (1989), and the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers ( 2013–14) as one of only four franchises to achieve the feat. Kobe Bryant
Kobe Bean Bryant ( ; August 23, 1978 – January 26, 2020) was an American professional basketball player. A shooting guard, he spent his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge
The 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge was the 6th FIBA Asia Challenge, an international basketball tournament of FIBA Asia which was hosted by Iran from 9–18 September 2016. This tournament served as the first step in determining the process of the qualifiers for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup which will feature teams from both FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania for the first time. Iran are the defending champion from 2014. The top five teams earned their respective sub-confederations an extra berth for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup which is formerly named as the FIBA Asia Championship. The 2017 tournament is not an edition of the FIBA Asia Challenge, which was formerly named as FIBA Asia Cup until 2014. 2016 SEABA Cup
The 2016 SEABA Cup was the qualifying event in the SEABA for the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge. The fifth edition of the games took place from 22 May to 28 May 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. Automatically, only one spot was allotted for SEABA but due to the Philippines' runner-up finish in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship, the subzone was awarded another slot, thus SEABA had two spots which was contested by five SEABA teams. The won their second tournament title by defeating the hosts in the championship match, 97-80. However, both teams were already qualified to the main tournament as of 25 May due to their top two finish in the elimination round. Philippines Men's National Basketball Team
The Philippines men's national basketball team ( fil, Pambansang koponan ng basketbol ng Pilipinas), commonly known as Gilas Pilipinas, is the basketball team representing the Philippines. The team is managed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (Basketball Federation of the Philippines or simply SBP). The team won a bronze medal in the 1954 FIBA World Championship, the best finish by any team outside the Americas and Europe. The 2016 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner's Cup Finals was the best-of-7 championship series of the 2016 PBA Commissioner's Cup and the conclusion of the conference's playoffs. The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Alaska Aces competed for the 16th Commissioner's Cup championship and the 117th overall championship contested by the league. The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters are a professional basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association owned by Asian Coatings Philippines, Inc. It debuted in the league in the 2006–07 PBA season after acquiring the franchise rights of the Shell Turbo Chargers in 2006, which disbanded after the 2004–05 PBA season. From 1996 to 2006, the franchise played in the Philippine Basketball League, carrying the name Welcoat House Paints, Welcoat Paintmasters and the St. Benilde-Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, winning a total of six championships. Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League (also known as PCBL) was a commercial amateur basketball tournament based in the Philippines that catered to the development and grassroots program for future Filipino basketball players, inspired from the MICAA and the Philippine Basketball League (PBL). Joel Banal
Joel Banal (born February 6, 1958) is a retired Filipino professional basketball player, and former head coach in the Philippine Basketball Association. He is the former commissioner of the now-defunct Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League (PCBL). Banal is the only head coach to win championships in the NCAA, UAAP, PBL, and the PBA. The Meralco Bolts is a professional basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association. The team began in 2010 after the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) acquired the PBA franchise of the Sta.
