IFK Mariehamn
IFK Mariehamn is a Finnish football club based in Mariehamn, the capital of the Åland Islands. It plays in the Finnish Premier Division (''Veikkausliiga''), winning their first title in 2016. The club is managed by Gary Williams, and it plays its home matches at Wiklöf Holding Arena. History While IFK Mariehamn was formed in 1919, the sports club did not have a football department until the mid-1930s. Initially the team participated primarily in local tournaments on Åland, only sporadically playing other Finnish or Swedish teams. The team has participated in the Finnish football leagues since 1945. Until the 1970s, IFK Mariehamn played primarily in the Finnish football divisions 3 and 4. The club reached a peak in 1975 and 1976, when the club first advanced to division 2 and then reached division 1 (''Ykkönen'') the following year. Jani Pekka Lyyski (born 16 March 1983) is a Finnish former professional footballer who represented IFK Mariehamn, VPS, Djurgården, and the Finland national team, leading IFK Mariehamn to the 2016 Veikkausliiga win as their captain. Club career Early years and IFK Mariehamn Born on Åland, Lyyski started his football career in IFK Mariehamn. During 2000 and 2001, he resided in Stockholm and played with Spånga IS and youth football with Brommapojkarna. He returned to Åland in 2002 and managed to get into the senior team of IFK Mariehamn, and played there for seven years. He helped IFK Mariehamn to win promotions from third-tier Kakkonen to Ykkönen and eventually to top-tier Veikkausliiga in 2005, and was an integral part in establishing the club at the highest level. Bobbie Friberg da Cruz (born 16 February 1982) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a defender. He has played for IFK Mariehamn in Finland, IFK Norrköping and GAIS in Sweden, Randers in Denmark, and Kongsvinger in Norway. His brother Johan Friberg da Cruz is also a professional football player. Their father is of Cape Verdean origin, and both of the brothers have been invited to the Cape Verde national team. Club career Da Cruz had played for GAIS since he was 16 years old. Aleksei Kangaskolkka
Aleksei Kangaskolkka (born 29 October 1988) is a Finnish-Russian former professional footballer who played as a forward. Career Kangaskolkka was born in Vyborg, USSR, where he grew up before moving to Finland with his mother and Ingrian Finnish stepfather at the age of eight. In 2004, he made his debut with MyPa in the Finnish top division Veikkausliiga at the young age of sixteen. In that same year he also went on trial with English club Manchester United. Diego Assis Figueiredo (born 14 September 1987) is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder.
