2016 Gibraltar Darts Trophy
The 2016 Gibraltar Darts Trophy was the third of ten PDC European Tour events on the 2016 PDC Pro Tour. The tournament took place at the Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar, between 6–8 May 2016. It featured a field of 48 players and £115,000 in prize money, with £25,000 going to the winner. Michael van Gerwen retained his title by defeating Dave Chisnall 6–2 in the final, after almost crashing out to the Gibraltarian Host Nation qualifier Dyson Parody, who missed three match darts in their quarter-final match. Prize money The prize money of the European Tour events stays the same as last year. Qualification and format The top 16 players from thPDC ProTour Order of Merit on 4 March automatically qualified for the event and were seeded in the second round. Victoria Stadium (Gibraltar)
Victoria Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Gibraltar. It is currently used mostly for Association football, football matches, but also hosts the annual Gibraltar Music Festival. It is located close to Gibraltar Airport just off Winston Churchill Avenue, Gibraltar, Winston Churchill Avenue. It was named after the wife of Gibraltarian people, Gibraltarian philanthropist John Mackintosh (philanthropist), John Mackintosh. Kim Huybrechts
Kim Huybrechts (born 16 November 1985) is a Belgian professional darts player competing in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He was runner-up in the 2012 Players Championship Finals, losing to Phil Taylor 13–6. He also made the final of the 2013 PDC World Cup of Darts, representing Belgium alongside his brother Ronny. Gerwyn Price (born 7 March 1985) is a Welsh professional darts player and former professional rugby union and rugby league player. He competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he is currently ranked PDC Order of Merit, world number eleven; he was ranked world number one on three occasions from 2021 to 2022. Stephen Bunting (born 9 April 1985) is an English professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he is currently ranked world number four. Nicknamed "the Bullet", Bunting formerly competed in British Darts Organisation (BDO) events. He is a former BDO World Champion, having won the 2014 World Championship. Justin Pipe
Justin Pipe (born 9 November 1971) is an English former professional darts player who competed in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He won six PDC titles. Playing career Pipe was a Boxing, boxer in his youth, and, as a staunch anti-smoker, he refused to play darts in local pubs as the cigarette smoke would make his eyes water. In 2007, a Smoking ban in England, smoking ban was introduced to England which enabled him to restart his darts career. He first emerged at the 2008 UK Open (darts), 2008 UK Open as a pub qualifier. Benito Van De Pas
Benito van de Pas (born 18 January 1993) is a former Dutch professional darts player who formerly competed in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Van de Pas obtained a PDC Tour Card in 2014 and won three ranking Players Championship events on the 2016 PDC Pro Tour. Robert Thornton (born 17 July 1967) is a Scottish professional darts player. He competes in World Seniors Darts (WSD) events; he has won the WSD World Championship twice. He also won the 2022 World Seniors Matchplay. Thorton previously participated in British Darts Organisation (BDO) tournaments; he won the 2007 Winmau World Masters and 2008 Dutch Open.
