2016 GFA Premier Division
The 2016 GFA Premier Division was the 33rd season of top-division football in Grenada. The regular season competition began on 10 June 2016 and concluded on 23 October 2016. The playoffs were scheduled to begin in December 2016, with the first legs of the semifinals being held on 11 December 2016 and the second legs on 14 December 2016. The final and consolation matches were scheduled for 18 December 2016, but were not played. This was due to a Forfeit (sport)#Association football, double forfeit between Mount Rich SC, Mount Rich and Paradise FC International as both their games were unplayed. By default, Hard Rock FC, Hard Rock won the league title after beating St. John's S.C., St. John's Sports 4–0 on aggregate in their semifinal series. St. John's was the default runner-up. GFA Premier Division
The GFA Premier League is the top football league in Grenada. It was created in 1983 and is headed by the Grenada Football Association. 10 teams participate in this league. The 10th-placed team is relegated to the Grenada First Division, while the 9th-placed team plays a play-off with the 2nd-placed team of the second level. Despite being a league competition in CONCACAF none of the Grenadan teams ever played in CFU Club Championship or CONCACAF Champions' Cup. Some of the matches are played at the 9,000 capacity Grenada National Stadium. League games usually take place in front of dozens of spectators. In 2014, the match between PetroCaribe Queens Park Rangers and Nixon's Electrical Happy Hill FC was the first live broadcast of a Premier Division match. The Grenada National Cricket Stadium, formerly Queen's Park, is a cricket ground on River Road, St George's, the capital of Grenada. A Grenada cricket team is first recorded in West Indies cricket in 1887, playing against a touring Gentlemen of America team at the original Queen's Park ground.
