2016 European Baseball Championship
The 2016 European Baseball Championship was an international baseball tournament organized by Confederation of European Baseball. The 2016 European Championship was held from September 9 to 18, 2016 in Hoofddorp, Netherlands. It was organized by the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB), the City of Hoofddorp and the local baseball club Hoofddorp Pioniers. Qualification The top ten teams of the 2014 European Championship qualified automatically for the tournament. 2 additional teams qualified from the B-level tournament. Qualification started on 29 July 2014 with C level qualifiers for B level tournament. Stijn Van Der Meer
Stijn van der Meer (born May 1, 1993) is a Dutch professional baseball shortstop for Curaçao Neptunus of the Honkbal Hoofdklasse. Career Van der Meer attended Lamar University. Houston Astros The Astros selected Van der Meer in the 34th round of the 2016 MLB draft. He signed and spent the season with both the GCL Astros and Greeneville Astros, slashing .329/.404/.418 in 29 games. He began 2017 with the Buies Creek Astros but was released after six games on April 17, 2017. In baseball, batting average (BA) is determined by dividing a player's hits by their total at-bats. It is usually rounded to three decimal places and read without the decimal: A player with a batting average of .300 is said to be "batting three hundred". In baseball statistics, on-base percentage (OBP) measures how frequently a batting (baseball), batter reaches base (baseball), base. Alex Liddi (born August 14, 1988) is an Italian former professional baseball third and first baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners from 2011 through 2013, and in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) for the Chinatrust Brothers in 2019. Stolen Base
In baseball, a stolen base occurs when a runner advances to a base unaided by other actions and the official scorer rules that the advance should be credited to the action of the runner. Randolph F. Oduber (born March 18, 1989) is an Aruban former professional baseball outfielder. He played for Team Netherlands in the 2019 European Baseball Championship, and at the Africa/Europe 2020 Olympic Qualification tournament in Italy in September 2019. Strikeout
In baseball or softball, a strikeout (or strike-out) occurs when a batter accumulates three strikes during a time at bat. It means the batter is out, unless the third strike is not caught by the catcher and the batter reaches first base safely as a result. A strikeout is a statistic recorded for both pitchers and batters, and is usually denoted by the letter K, or sometimes by the initialism SO. Walk (baseball)
A base on balls (BB), better known as a walk, occurs in baseball when a batter receives four pitches during a plate appearance that the umpire calls '' balls'', and is in turn awarded first base without the possibility of being called out. The base on balls is defined in Section 2.00 of baseball's Official Rules, and further detail is given in 6.08(a). A run batted in or runs batted in (RBI) is a statistic in baseball and softball that credits a batter for making a play that allows a run to be scored (except in certain situations such as when an error is made on the play). For example, if the batter bats a base hit which allows a teammate on a higher base to reach home and so score a run, then the batter gets credited with an RBI. Before the 1920 Major League Baseball season, runs batted in were not an official baseball statistic. Kalian Rivalino Sams (born 25 August 1986) is a Dutch former professional baseball outfielder who reached Triple-A in Minor League Baseball and played professionally in other countries. He also played more than 100 games for the Netherlands national team in international baseball tournaments.
