2016 Caloocan Local Elections
Local elections in Caloocan were held on May 9, 2016, within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the two Congressmen, and the councilors, six in each of the city's two legislative districts. Background On October 7, 2015, incumbent city mayor Oscar Malapitan announced that he would run again for mayor of Caloocan under the "Tao Ang Una" (People First) party. Originally, Tao ang Una was Malapitan's campaign slogan during the 2013 elections, but he formed his own political party that was approved by the COMELEC on September 18. Malapitan represented and chaired the city's United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) chapter. Oscar "Oca" Gonzales Malapitan (born June 14, 1955) is a Filipino politician who currently serves as the representative from the 1st District of Caloocan in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 2022 and previously from 2004 to 2013. He also served as Mayor of Caloocan from 2013 to 2022, Vice Mayor of Caloocan from 2001 to 2004, and City Councilor from 1992 to 1998. He also unsuccessfully ran for representative in 2001. Enrico "Recom" Reantillo Echiverri (born November 18, 1954) is a Filipino lawyer and politician. He previously served as a member of the Philippine House of Representatives representing the Caloocan's 1st district and Mayor of Caloocan. Education Echiverri spent his grade school years at Morning Breeze Elementary School in Caloocan. He finished his secondary studies at the Gregorio Araneta University Foundation High School in Malabon in 1971. He took up AB Economics at San Beda University. The legislative districts of Caloocan are the representations of the highly urbanized city of Caloocan in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. Edgar Ranes Erice (born June 15, 1960) is a Filipino politician. He is a former representative of the second district of Caloocan as a member of the Philippine House of Representatives.
