2016 Belarusian Premier League
The 2016 Belarusian Premier League was the 26th season of top-tier football in Belarus. The season began on 1 April 2016 and concluded on 27 November 2016. BATE Borisov were the defending champions, having won their 12th league title last year; they successfully defended their title this season. Teams Three best teams of 2015 First League ( Isloch Minsk Raion, Gorodeya and Krumkachy Minsk) were promoted to the league, which was expanded from 14 to 16 clubs. Belarusian Premier League
The Belarusian Premier League (, ''Vyšejšaja Liha'' or ''Vysheyshaya Liga''; ; "Top League"), also called the BETERA Premier League for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Belarus and the highest level of the Belarusian football league system. It is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation. The number of teams in the competition has varied over the years from as high as 17 (1992–93 season) to as low as 11 (2012). the league included 16 teams. Each team plays every other team twice during the course of the season. At the end of the season, the two teams with the fewest points are automatically relegated to the Belarusian First League, while the third worst team plays a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team from the second tier. Spartak Stadium (Bobruisk)
Spartak Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Bobruisk, Belarus. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and is the home ground of FC Belshina Bobruisk, Belshina Bobruisk as well as women's team Bobruichanka Bobruisk. The stadium holds 3,700 people. The stadium was opened in April 1934 and reconstructed in 2004 and 2006 to get a modern look and bigger capacity. Babruysk (, ) or Bobruysk (, ; , ) is a city in Mogilev Region, Belarus. It serves as the administrative center of Babruysk District, though it is administratively separated from the district. Borisov Arena (, ''Barysaw-Arena''; ) is a football-specific stadium in Barysaw, Belarus and is the home stadium of FC BATE Borisov and the Belarus national football team. FC Gomel () is a Belarusian association football, football club based in the city of Gomel. Their home stadium is Central Stadium (Gomel), Central Stadium. History Teams from Gomel (usually city or raion selection or railway-based team ''Lokomotiv'', but not always) played in the Belarusian SSR championships since the early 1920s. 2015 Belarusian First League
The 2015 Belarusian First League is the 25th season of 2nd level football in Belarus. It started in April and finished in November 2015. Team changes from 2014 season Two best teams of 2014 Belarusian First League ( Granit Mikashevichi and Slavia Mozyr) were promoted to Belarusian Premier League. No team has relegated from Premier League directly due to its expansion from 12 to 14 clubs. Last season's third-placed team Vitebsk won the promotion/relegation play-offs against Dnepr Mogilev (last team of Premier League) and were also promoted to Premier League. Dnepr Mogilev replaced Vitebsk in the First League Volna Pinsk, who finished 16th last year, relegated to the Second League. FC Isloch Minsk Raion
FC Isloch Minsk Raion or Islach (; ) is a Belarusian football club based in Minsk, although it officially represents Minsk Raion and is named after the Islach River. History The team was founded in 2007 as an amateur club. From 2007 until 2011, it played in the Minsk Oblast championship. FC Vitebsk (, ) is a Belarusian football club based in Vitebsk. The club plays in the Belarusian Premier League, the top division in Belarusian football. Their home stadium is Vitebsky Central Sport Complex. History The club was founded in 1960 as Krasnoye Znamya Vitebsk (''Red Flag Vitebsk''). They began playing in Soviet Class B (second-tier league) the same year. After three seasons, they relegated to the third tier. SFC Slutsk (; ) is a Belarusian association football club based in Slutsk, Minsk Oblast. History Origins and predecessor clubs There was competitive football in Slutsk as early as 1913, with a Slutsk team entering the third season of the republican competition in 1926, but it did not enter a BSSR competition again until 1936. From the 1940s, the city of Slutsk was represented at a very low level by a team called Slutsk Spartak.
