2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Men's Slalom
The men's slalom competition in the 2016 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved 11 events, including one parallel slalom (specifically, a city event, which only includes 16 racers). However, the city event was moved from Munich on 1 January to Stockholm on 23 February due to organization issues. The last race of the season was at the World Cup finals in St. Moritz. Marcel Hirscher of Austria had won the discipline for the prior three seasons, but this season Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway won six of the first seven races to build a 180-point lead over Hirscher at that point. Although Hirscher won two of the next three races, Kristoffersen still had a 111-point lead with only one race to go, clinching his victory for the season. Slalom Skiing
Slalom is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline, involving skiing between poles or gates. These are spaced more closely than those in giant slalom, super giant slalom and downhill, necessitating quicker and shorter turns. Santa Caterina di Valfurva is a ''frazione'' of the ''comune'' of Valfurva, in the northern Italian province of Sondrio. Fritz Dopfer
Fritz Dopfer (; born 24 August 1987) is a German former World Cup alpine ski racer, specializing in the technical events of giant slalom and slalom. Born in Innsbruck, Austria, to a German father and an Austrian mother, the family lived in both countries during his youth. They lived in Schongau, Bavaria, in Germany until Dopfer was age 10, when the family moved to Tyrol in Austria. Dopfer raced for Austria through April 2007, then joined the German team that summer and made his World Cup debut in October 2007. During his first three seasons on the German team, he raced primarily on the European Cup circuit, with several World Cup starts per season, but no results. He moved up to the World Cup team for the 2011 season, and attained his first World Cup podium (and first top ten) in December 2011 in a giant slalom at Beaver Creek, Colorado. Stefano "Sabo" Gross (born 4 September 1986) is a World Cup alpine ski racer from northern Italy. Born in Bozen, South Tyrol, Gross was raised in Pozza di Fassa in Trentino; he races in the technical events and specializes in the slalom. Career Gross made his World Cup debut at Alta Badia in December 2008, and his best results are three podiums in slalom in 2015, including a victory in Adelboden. Gross has represented Italy at seven World Championships and finished tenth in the slalom in 2017. He was fourth in the slalom at the 2014 Winter Olympics. André Myhrer
André Myhrer (born 11 January 1983) is a retired Swedish World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist. Born at Bergsjö in Gävleborg County, Myhrer competed in the technical events and specialised in slalom. Career Myhrer made his World Cup debut in January 2004 and his first victory came at Beaver Creek, Colorado, in December 2006. Myhrer represented Sweden at the 2006 Winter Olympics and tied for fourth place in the slalom, only 0.03 s from third. At the 2010 Olympics he was tenth after the first run of the slalom at Whistler, then had the fastest time in the second and won the bronze medal. In 2018, Myhrer won the Olympic slalom competition after both main favourites had failed to finish. In addition to four Olympics, Myhrer has competed in nine World Championships. Felix Neureuther
Felix Neureuther (; born 26 March 1984) is a German retired World Cup alpine ski racer and former World champion. Early life Born in Munich- Pasing, Neureuther is the son of former World and Olympic champion Rosi Mittermaier and Christian Neureuther, a slalom specialist and winner of six World Cup races. He is the nephew of Evi Mittermaier, who was also a successful alpine ski racer and former Olympian in 1976 and 1980. As of 2020, the combined Neureuther–Mittermaier family has 31 World Cup wins, with 115 podium finishes. Career Neureuther was raised in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria and was a member of the German national ski team. He has competed in nine World Championships and three Winter Olympics. Naeba Ski Resort
is a ski resort on the eastern slope of in , Niigata Prefecture. This ski resort was formerly run by Kokudo, and currently is run by Prince Hotel, which merged with Kokudo in 2006. Naeba is one of the most popular ski resorts in Japan due to its accessible location from Tokyo and relatively long snow season with snow making machines. Planai
Planai is a ski area in central Austria, the main mountain in the Schladming area in Styria. It is one of four adjoining mountains, which includes Hauser Kaibling, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm, connected under the name Schladminger 4-Berge-Schaukel. It is not regarded as a single mountain and all text from the official website cites the total amount of pistes. Planai was the host venue of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2013, held in early February. Schladming previously hosted alpine skiing's major biennial event in 1982, with the men's events at Planai and the women's at Haus im Ennstal.
