2015–16 Saudi Pro League
The 2015–16 Saudi Professional League (known as the Abdul Latif Jameel Professional League for sponsorship reasons) was the 40th season of the Saudi Professional League, the top Saudi professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1976. The season began on 19 August 2015 and ended on 14 May 2016. Al-Nassr were the two time defending champions having won their eighth title last season. The league was contested by the 12 teams from the 2014–15 season as well as Al-Qadisiyah and Al-Wehda, who joined as the promoted clubs from the 2014–15 First Division. They replace Al-Orobah and Al-Shoulla who were relegated to the 2015–16 First Division. On 24 April, Al-Ahli secured their third league title and first since 1984 with two games to spare after defeating second-placed Al-Hilal 3–1 at home. The Saudi Pro League (SPL), also known as the Roshn Saudi League (RSL) for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Saudi Arabia and the highest level of the Saudi football league system. The SPL is regarded as the premier football league in Asia, having the highest ranking among AFC club competitions. The origins of the Saudi top division league trace back to the establishment of the His Majesty's League in 1956, which lasted until 1974. The 1983–84 Saudi Premier League was the 8th season of Saudi Premier League since its establishment in 1976. Al-Ettifaq were the defending champions, having won their 1st title in the previous season. The campaign began on 5 October 1983 and ended on 17 February 1984. The league was contested by 10 teams the top 8 teams from the previous season as well as Al-Wehda and Al-Riyadh, who joined as the promoted clubs from the 1982–83 First Division. Going into the final matchday, Al-Ahli were leading the table with 2 points ahead of derby rivals Al-Ittihad. Al-Ittihad would face fourth-placed Al-Qadisiyah at home while Al-Ahli would face ninth-placed Al-Nahda away from home. 2015–16 Saudi First Division League was the 39th season of the Saudi First Division League since its establishment in 1976. The season started on 21 August 2015 and concluded on 23 April 2016. On 23 April 2016, Al-Mujazzal won the league title and earned promotion to 2016–17 Pro League along with Al-Ettifaq, while Al-Batin qualified to the promotion play-offs. Al-Nahda, Al-Riyadh and Al-Diriyah were relegated to the 2016–17 Saudi Second Division. On 21 July 2016, the SAFF announced the relegation of Al-Mujazzal to the Saudi Second Division due to match fixing. 2014–15 Saudi First Division was the 38th season of Saudi First Division since its establishment in 1976. The season started on 15 August 2014 and concluded on 20 April 2015. Both Al-Qadisiyah and Al-Wehda were promoted on the final day of the season.
