2015–16 GFF Elite League
The 2015–16 GFF Elite League (known as the 2015–16 Stag Elite League for sponsorship reasons) was the 15th season of the highest competitive football league in Guyana, and the 1st season of the Elite League. Eight FIFA licensed clubs participated in the inaugural Elite League season. The season was split into two parts (known as the ''Genesis'' and ''Finale'' rounds). Each half consisted of 14 rounds, with each team playing the other 7 teams twice each. In each round, the top 4 teams advanced to the playoffs. The winners of each half then faced off to determine the overall champion. The two half-season champions also advanced to the 2017 CFU Club Championship. Slingerz (the Genesis round champions) defeated Alpha United (the Finale round champions) to win the overall championship. GFF Elite League
The Elite League, often referred to as GFF Elite League is the top level of the football system in Guyana. Contested by 10 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation. Top level before GFF Elite League was GFF National Super League. The competition was formed as the Stag Elite League in 2015 following a hiatus for the 2014-15 season. Its inaugural season consisted of 8 of the 11 FIFA licensed teams from Guyana. The league expanded to 10 teams for its second season, but four teams pulled out before the season began. Leonora, Guyana
Leonora is a village in Essequibo Islands-West Demerara (Region 3), one of Guyana's 10 regions. Its subdivisions are Pasture, Sea Field, Para Field, Groenveldt and Sea Spray. The neighboring villages are Anna Catherina and Uitvlugt. Leonora encompasses an area of about , once part of the Parish of St. Luke. It stretches from Edinburgh in the east to Stewartville in the west, and from the Atlantic Ocean in the north, to the south as far as the West Demerara Water Conservancy. Leonora was named after the historical 7,942 acre Leonora sugar plantation, which operated from before 1789 until the Leonora Estate sugar factory was closed down in December 1986. The plantation was named after the two children of the owner: Leo and Nora. Leonora is home to the Synthetic Track and Field Facility, a multi-sport stadium seating 3,000 people. Dwight Peters (born 23 August 1986) is a semi-professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Alpha United and the Guyana national team. Career Peters began his career with BeterVerwagting Triumph in 2003, before joining Guyana Defence Force two years later. A short stay with Western Tigers led to a move to Trinidad & Tobago to join Caledonia ANA in 2007, before returning to Guyana Defence Force for a second spell a year later. Kithson Bain
Kithson Anthony Bain (born 26 May 1982) is a Grenadian footballer currently playing for Caledonia AIA in the Trinidad and Tobago Premier League. He has been capped at full international level by the Grenada national football team. Guyana Defence Force Ground
The Guyana Defence Force Ground is a multi-use stadium on Vlissengen Road in Georgetown, Guyana. Owned by the Guyana Defence Force and based within Camp Ayanganna, it is used mostly for football matches and athletics competitions, though in the past it has hosted one first-class cricket match. This match was the final of the Guystac Trophy between Demerara and Berbice in October 1987. The match saw both Rudolph Doodnauth of Berbice and Clyde Butts of Demerara take five wicket hauls, with the match ending in a draw. With a capacity of 2,000, the ground is used by the Defence Force as their home ground. Anthony 'Awo' Joseph Abrams (born 3 October 1979) is a Guyanese footballer who plays as a striker for Fruta Conquerors FC in the GFF Elite League.
