2015–16 Asia League Ice Hockey Season
The 2015–16 Asia League Ice Hockey season was the 13th season of Asia League Ice Hockey. The league consisted of nine teams from China, Japan, Russia, and South Korea. Playoffs The teams placed 3-6 in the regular season met in the first round, while the teams placed 1-2 were direct qualified for semifinals. The first round was determined in best out of three games, while the semifinal and the final were determined in best out of five games. Asia League Ice Hockey
Asia League Ice Hockey (; ) or ALIH (AL) is an association which operates a professional ice hockey league based in East Asia, with teams from Japan, South Korea, and formerly China and Russia. The league is headquartered in Japan. At the end of the playoffs every year the winner is awarded the Championship Trophy. The league was formed in 2003 due to declining popularity in the Japan Ice Hockey League and the folding of the Korean Ice Hockey League. It was formed with the goal of promoting hockey and developing players' skills. The league initially comprised five teams in two countries. It expanded to highs of four countries (2004–05 season) and nine teams (2005–06 season) and it comprised eight teams from three countries in the 2013–14 season. Oji Eagles
The Red Eagles Hokkaido (レッドイーグルス北海道) are a professional ice hockey team based in Tomakomai city on Hokkaidō, Japan. They are members of the Asia League Ice Hockey. History The club was founded as the Oji Eagles in 1925. They have won the Japan League 13 times, the All Japan Championship 37 times and the Asia League 2 times. Oji became a founding member of Asia League Ice Hockey in 2003. In 2021 the team changed its name to the Red Eagles Hokkaido. Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (, , ) is a city and the administrative center of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia. It is located on Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East, north of Japan. Gas and oil extraction as well as processing are amongst the main industries on the island. It was called Vladimirovka () from 1882 to 1905, then during its period of Imperial Japanese control from 1905 to 1946. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 181,728. PSK Sakhalin
PSK Sakhalin (Russian: ''ПСК «Сахалин»''), formerly known as HK Sakhalin and Sakhalin Sea Lions, was an ice hockey team based in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia. Sakhalin joined the Asia League Ice Hockey (ALIH) in 2014 and played in the competition until 2022, when the ALIH voted to remove the team in protest of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Daemyung Sangmu
The Daemyung Sangmu was a professional ice hockey team based in Seoul, South Korea. The club played in the Asia League Ice Hockey (ALIH). Sangmu (상무, 尙武) is the sports division of the Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps. Team history Sangmu was established in 2012 by Korean government to prepare for the 2018 Pyeongchang winter Olympics. This team was made up of several players serving their two-year military service and therefore were unable to maintain practice and playing with their respective clubs, while conscripted. In its first season, 17 players played for Sangmu. Most players belonged to South Korea's national team. Sangmu, being a military team, unlike the other two Korean teams, Anyang Halla and High1, were not able to bring in any foreign imports, or trade for any players, nor could their players be traded to other teams. Tohoku Free Blades
The are an Asia League Ice Hockey team based in Hachinohe, Aomori, Japan. Community contributions The team has a number of community programs it runs under the mantra of "Team Social Responsibility". The team engages in youth oriented activities like running skating schools, working with high-school teams, visiting schools to interact with kids, and other kinds of junior hockey workshops. The team also attends various festivals and events in the communities in which they play. Arena The team plays mainly out of several rinks, including Niida Indoor Rink in Hachinohe City. The rink was completed in 1984 and renovated in 2002. It features an ice surface 30m wide by 60m long and seats 1,576 people. China Dragon
The China Dragon () was a professional ice hockey team which played its home games in three cities in China, including Harbin, Qiqihar, and Shanghai. The team was a member of Asia League Ice Hockey between 2007 and 2017. The team was formed in 1954 as two clubs, Harbin and Qiqihar, as part of the China League. In 2004, the clubs joined Asia League Ice Hockey and in 2007 they merged into a single club, China Sharks, backed by the National Hockey League's San Jose Sharks for financial reasons. The team was renamed the China Dragon in 2009 when San Jose pulled out. The team was dissolved following the 2016–17 Asia League Ice Hockey season, after which KHL club Kunlun Red Star became the primary Chinese ice hockey team.
