The Vancouver Stealth are a lacrosse team based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The team plays in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The 2015 season is the second season in Vancouver, though it will be the 16th in franchise history. They previously played in Everett, Washington, San Jose, and Albany, New York. National Lacrosse League
The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is a men's professional box lacrosse league in North America. The league is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The NLL currently has fifteen teams: ten in the United States and five in Canada. The NLL ranks third in average attendance for pro indoor sports worldwide, behind only the NHL and NBA. Unlike other box lacrosse leagues which play in the summer, the NLL plays its games in the winter and spring, from December to June. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the National Lacrosse League Cup. The NLL has averaged between 8,900 and 10,700 spectators per game each year since 2004. Rory Smith (lacrosse Player)
Rory Smith (born February 1, 1987) is a Canadian professional lacrosse player for the Vancouver Stealth of the National Lacrosse League and the Victoria Shamrocks of Western Lacrosse Association. Smith is known as an enforcer, and has racked up over 1,000 career penalty minutes during his amateur and professional career. His 104 penalty minutes with Orlando in 2010 is the record for most penalty minutes in a single season in NLL history. Smith began his amateur career with the Jr. B Mimico Mountaineers, and was named league MVP in 2006. He played for the Jr. A Brampton Excelsiors from 2007-08. He made his Sr. A debut in 2009 with the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the Western Lacrosse Association, and helped them to two Mann Cup appearances in 2009 and 2010. He moved back east in 2012 to play for the MSL Chiefs, with whom he won back-to-back Mann Cups in 2013 and 2014. The National Lacrosse League entry draft is an annual event where the general managers of National Lacrosse League teams choose eligible players for their rosters from US college programs and Canada's junior lacrosse system. A player is deemed eligible for the draft if he is 21 years of age, or is less than 21 years of age and has used or given up all NCAA or NAIA eligibility. Edmonton Rush
The Edmonton Rush were a professional lacrosse team in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) that played from 2006 NLL season to 2015. The team announced on July 20, 2015, that they would be relocating to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, for the 2016 season. The Saskatchewan Rush play in the SaskTel Centre. History The NLL announced that Edmonton, Alberta would receive an NLL franchise on May 5, 2005. They played their home games at Rexall Place. The Edmonton team was owned by businessman Bruce Urban, who purchased the dormant Ottawa Rebel to start the Edmonton team. Although early reports suggested that they would be playing as the Edmonton Speed, they selected the name Rush on June 9, 2005. Rochester Knighthawks
The Rochester Knighthawks (also known as the K-Hawks) are a professional box lacrosse team in the North Division of the National Lacrosse League. They play in Rochester, New York at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial. The Knighthawks are owned by Pegula Sports and Entertainment who purchased the intellectual property of the team from former owner Curt Styres who moved the previous version of the team to Halifax, Nova Scotia as the Halifax Thunderbirds at the end of the 2018–2019 season. As an expansion team they are not a continuation of the previous Knighthawks. All records and championships followed the original franchise to Halifax. Nick Weiss
Nick Weiss (born August 16, 1992) is a professional lacrosse player for the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League and the Peterborough Lakers of Major Series Lacrosse. Hailing from Port Hope, Ontario, Weiss began his career with the Peterborough Junior Lakers of the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League, with whom he played from 2010 to 2013, before being called up to the MSL Lakers in 2014. Weiss was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NLL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Stealth, and played in fifteen games in his rookie year. He was dealt, along with some draft picks, to the Buffalo Bandits in exchange for defenseman Rory Smith and goaltender Eric Penney, as well as a first round pick in the 2014 Draft. The Buffalo Bandits are a professional box lacrosse team in the East Division of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). They play at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. The Bandits played in the Major Indoor Lacrosse League from 1992 to 1997, then in its successor the NLL since 1998. The Bandits are owned by Hockey Western New York LLC, a division of Pegula Sports and Entertainment led by Terry Pegula who also owns the Buffalo Sabres and the Buffalo Bills. The Minnesota Swarm was a box lacrosse team in the National Lacrosse League who played at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota from 2004 until 2015. The team's previous owners (Minnesota Sports & Entertainment) who also own the NHL's Minnesota Wild purchased the rights to the inactive Montreal Express team on August 10, 2004. Corey Small
Corey Small (born March 23, 1987 in St. Catharines, Ontario) is a Canadian lacrosse player who plays for the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League and formerly the Hamilton Nationals in Major League Lacrosse. High school career Small attended Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in St. Catharines. During his senior year at Holy Cross, he helped lead the Raiders to a provincial championship. Canadian Box career Junior Small played for the St. Catharines Athletics in the OLA Junior A Lacrosse League from to 2004 to 2008. In 2005, he won the Gaylord Powless Sportsmanship Award.
