2015 Q School
The 2015 Q School was a series of two snooker tournaments held at the start of the 2015–16 snooker season. An event for amateur players, it served as a qualification event for a place on the professional World Snooker Tour for the following two seasons. The events took place in May 2015 at the Meadowside Centre in Burton-upon-Trent, England with a total 8 players qualifying via the two tournaments. Format The 2015 Q School consisted of two events. The two events had 166 entries competing for 8 places on the main tour, four players qualifying from each of the two events. All matches were the best of seven frames. Event 1 The first 2015 Q School event was held from 14 to 19 May 2015 at the Meadowside Centre in Burton-upon-Trent, England. Sydney Wilson, Daniel Wells, Eden Sharav and Rhys Clark qualified. Q School (snooker)
The Q School is an amateur snooker competition which serves as the qualification school for the World Snooker Tour. Overview Q School is established in 2011 as an attempt to streamline the qualification process and is held annually before the start of the professional season, where amateurs and ex-professionals who dropped out of the top 64 in Snooker world rankings, world rankings in previous seasons can compete for a two-year tour card to play on the Main Tour. It replaced the amateur tournament International Open Series, the former second-tier snooker series organised by the English Association of Snooker and Billiards (EASB). In 2022, a Q School branch in Bangkok was established for entrants from the Asia-Oceania region. 2 qualifying places were awarded to the winners whilst discontinuing qualification through Standings (sports), Order of Merit in Q School Europe. Gareth Allen
Gareth Allen (born 9 September 1988 in Mynydd Isa, near Buckley, Flintshire) is a Welsh former professional snooker player. Career Allen started playing snooker aged three, joining his local snooker club and playing on full sized table at twelve. In a lengthy amateur career, Allen made his debut for the Welsh international side aged eighteen, where he reached the last 16 of the 2010 Amateur World Snooker Championship and narrowly missed out on a professional tour card in 2013, where he lost in the final to Robin Hull in the EBSA European Snooker Championships. He was also a regular competitor in Players Tour Championship events, where in the professional rounds he beat pros such as Kurt Maflin, Alfie Burden, Andrew Norman, Joel Walker and Nigel Bond. 2017–18 Snooker Season
The 2017–18 snooker season was a series of professional snooker tournaments played between 4 May 2017 and 7 May 2018. The season began with the pro–am Vienna Snooker Open in May 2017 and ended with the 2018 World Snooker Championship in April the following year. Ronnie O'Sullivan earned a joint-record five ranking titles in the season. He joined Stephen Hendry ( 1990/1991), Ding Junhui ( 2013/2014), and Mark Selby ( 2016/2017) in winning five ranking titles in the same season. The China Championship became a ranking event and was brought forward to a mid-August date, ahead of the Paul Hunter Classic. The Shanghai Masters was initially withdrawn from the season calendar, but was later rescheduled for November 2017. The biennial World Cup team event was played in July 2017. 2016–17 Snooker Season
The 2016–17 snooker season was a series of professional snooker tournaments played between 5 May 2016 and 1 May 2017. The number of ranking events was increased in 2016/17, with a target of 20 ranking events for 2017/18. According to the World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn, total prize money for the World Snooker Tour in 2016/17 hit £10 million for the first time ever. The trophy for the Masters (snooker), Masters was renamed the Paul Hunter trophy in perpetuity, in memory of the three-time Masters champion who died in 2006. The Snooker Shoot Out became a ranking event for the first time. The Australian Goldfields Open was cancelled. Hammad Miah
Hammad Miah (born 6 July 1993) is an English former professional snooker player. In May 2013, Miah qualified for the 2013–14 and 2014–15 professional Main Tour as one of four semi-finalists from the first 2013 Q School event. Hammad Miah is based at Whetstone Snooker Club in Barnet, England. He regained his card through the 2021 Q School Order of Merit for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. Andy Hicks
Andrew Hicks (born 10 August 1973) is an English retired professional snooker player. Nicknamed "The Cream of Devon", Hicks was a semi-finalist at both the World Snooker Championship and UK Championship in 1995, and the same stage at four other ranking tournaments. A Masters semi-finalist in 1996, he was ranked within the world's top 32 players between 1995 and 2000, and again from 2005 to 2007, but was relegated from the main tour in 2013. Luke Simmonds (born 7 December 1979) is an English former professional snooker player. Career Early career Simmonds won the World Under-21 Championship in Malta in 1998, defeating Robert Murphy 11–2 in the final, before beating Ryan Day 11–10 to become World Amateur champion in the same year.
