2015 Blackpool Borough Council Election
The 2015 Blackpool Borough Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect members of Blackpool Borough Council in England. All 21 wards of 2 seats each on the council were contested with newly elected members next due to serve a four-year term and next contest their seats in 2019. This election took place on the same day as other local elections as well as the 2015 UK General Election. The Labour Party retained an overall control on the council, winning 29 of the 42 seats on the council. The Conservative Party won the remaining 13 seats, wiping out the Liberal Democrats. Result A total of 107,097 votes were cast, with 345 ballots being spoilt. The turnout was 58.1%. The 2015 United Kingdom local elections were held on Thursday 7 May 2015, the same day as the general election for the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. 2015 United Kingdom General Election
The 2015 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 7 May 2015 to elect 650 members to the House of Commons. It was the first and only general election held at the end of a Parliament under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011. Local elections took place in most areas on the same day. Polls and commentators had predicted the outcome would be too close to call and would result in a second consecutive hung parliament whose composition would be either similar to or more complicated than the 2010 general election. Opinion polls were eventually proven to have underestimated the Conservative vote as the party, having governed in coalition with the Liberal Democrats since 2010, won 330 seats and 36.9% of the vote share, giving them a small overall majority of 12 seats (including Speaker John Bercow—ten seats without him) and their first outright win since 1992. Anchorsholme is an area of Blackpool, in the Borough of Blackpool in Lancashire, England. It is close to the town of Cleveleys and village of Thornton. Etymology The name Anchorsholme is thought to derive from the Old Scandinavian word 'holmr' meaning a piece of dry ground in a marsh forming an island, with the 'Anchors' meaning a location where one would fasten up a boat. Bispham, Blackpool
Bispham is a village on the Fylde coast in Lancashire, England, a mile and a half north of Blackpool town centre. Geography and administration The village is part of the borough of Blackpool, and generally considered a suburb of the town. To the south of Bispham is Warbreck, North Shore and Layton, to the east is Carleton and to the north is Norbreck and Thornton Cleveleys and to the west, the Irish Sea. The area is mostly urban. Clifton, Lancashire
Clifton is a village in the English county of Lancashire and in the district of Fylde. The village is part of the civil parish of Newton-with-Clifton. It is situated on the A583 road, approximately west of its post town, Preston, and east of Blackpool. The village is also home to the church of St John the Evangelist, also known as Lund parish church, which is situated on Church Lane, and the Grade II listed Clifton Hall. Amenities The village once had a Post Office and still has convenience store and a number of small businesses, including a garage. Near the village is a branch of Dobbies Garden Centre and a caravan and motor-home sales centre. In December 2014 radio station CliftonFM made its inaugural broadcast. Layton is a district and electoral ward of the town of Blackpool in England. The ward population at the 2011 census was 6,845. Geography Located roughly in Blackpool's geographical centre (although some distance from the coastal business district), Layton accounts for a relatively large part of the town's total area. Layton is bounded by the districts of Bispham (to the north), Whitegate (to the west), Grange Park (to the east) and Marton (to the south). Most of the land in this area is flat, apart from a single hill in the northeast corner. Marton, Blackpool
Marton is a settlement on the coastal plain of the Fylde in Lancashire, England, most of which is now part of the seaside town of Blackpool. Marton, which consisted of Great Marton, Little Marton, Marton Fold and The Peel, was originally part of the parish of Poulton-le-Fylde, before the development of Blackpool as a resort. History Great Marton and Little Marton were collectively listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ''Meretun''. Squires Gate, Blackpool
Squires Gate is a district and an electoral ward in South Shore, Blackpool on the Fylde coast in the county of Lancashire, England. It is located at the south of the town near the boundary with Lytham St Annes. The population of the ward taken at the 2011 census was 6,437. One of the most significant sites at Squires gate was the holiday camp. Originally called Squires Gate camp, it became a Pontins holiday centre, but closed in October 2009 for a housing development. Prior to becoming a holiday camp, the camp was used as a military base during World War II. Blackpool Airport is in Squires Gate, and the district also has a small railway station on the Blackpool South to Preston branch line.
