2014 UCI World Tour
The 2014 UCI World Tour was the sixth edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009. The series started with the opening stage of the 2014 Tour Down Under, Tour Down Under on 21 January, and concluded with the final stage of the 2014 Tour of Beijing, Tour of Beijing on 14 October. After winning the 2008 UCI ProTour, Spain's Alejandro Valverde won his first World Tour individual points title, amassing 686 points over the course of the season. The rider finished 66 points clear of his closest rival and compatriot Alberto Contador of , while Australian rider Simon Gerrans was third for the team, but was over 200 points in arrears of Valverde. UCI World Tour
The UCI WorldTour is the premier men's elite road cycling tour, sitting above the UCI ProSeries and various regional UCI Continental Circuits. It refers to both the tour of 38 events and, until 2019, an annual ranking system based upon performances in these. The World Ranking was launched in 2009, (known from 2009–2010 as the ''UCI World Ranking'') and merged fully with its predecessor the UCI ProTour in 2011. Diego Ulissi (born 15 July 1989) is an Italian road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Ulissi is a versatile, all-round cyclist who often wins stages and one-day races from breakaways and over hilly terrain. Joaquim Rodríguez Oliver (born 12 May 1979) is a Spanish cyclist, who competed in road bicycle racing between 2001 and 2016 for the , , and teams. 2014 Volta A Catalunya
The 2014 Volta a Catalunya was the 94th running of the Volta a Catalunya cycling stage race. It started on 24 March in Calella and ended on 30 March in Barcelona, and consisted of seven stages. It was the fifth race of the 2014 UCI World Tour season. The race was won for the second time by Spain's Joaquim Rodríguez of , who took the lead after winning the race's third stage, and maintained the overall lead of the race until the end in Barcelona, to take his first stage race victory in over two years. Benjamin John Swift (born 5 November 1987) is a British professional Track cycling, track and road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Swift won the UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Men's scratch, scratch race at the 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and the men's elite road race at the 2019 and 2021 British National Road Race Championships. 2014 Milan–San Remo
The 2014 Milan–San Remo was the 105th running of the Milan–San Remo single-day Classic cycle races, monument classic cycling race. It was held on Sunday 23 March over a distance of and was the fourth race of the 2014 UCI World Tour season. It was won in the sprint by Alexander Kristoff, ahead of Fabian Cancellara and Ben Swift. Roman Kreuziger
Roman Kreuziger (; born 6 May 1986) is a Czech former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2006 and 2021 for six different teams. His father, Roman Kreuziger Sr., was also a bicycle racer who won the Tour of Austria in 1991 and the Cyclocross Junior World Championships in 1983. Kreuziger competed as an all-rounder, with climbing and time trial abilities, becoming a contender for the General classification of stage races. Nairo Alexánder Quintana Rojas, Order of Boyacá, ODB, (born 4 February 1990) is a Colombian racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . 2014 Tirreno–Adriatico
The 2014 Tirreno–Adriatico was the 49th edition of the Tirreno–Adriatico cycling stage race, often known as the ''Race of the Two Seas''. It started on 12 March in Donoratico and ended on 18 March in San Benedetto del Tronto, and consisted of seven stages, including a team time trial to begin the race and an individual time trial to conclude it. It was the third race of the 2014 UCI World Tour season. Arthur Vichot
Arthur Vichot (born 26 November 1988) is a French former professional cyclist, who rode professionally between 2010 and 2020, for the and teams. He is the nephew of Frédéric Vichot, who won stages in the Tour de France in 1984 and 1985. Professional career One tradition of the Tour Down Under is that the fans choose an unknown rider and treat him the way they would a star, by mobbing him at hotels and painting his name on the road.
