The XIX 2014 Pan Am Badminton Championships were held in Markham, Canada, between October 13 and October 19, 2014. Pan Am Badminton Championships
The Pan American Badminton Championships is a tournament organized since 1977 by the Badminton Pan America (BPA) to crown the best badminton players in the Americas. The tournament was held every year from 1977 until 1980, then every two years from 1987 until 2007. It is now organized annually, except once every four years when the Pan American Games multi-sports event is held. Badminton is part of the Pan American Games since 1995. Since then, 2007 was the only year both events (the Pan American Badminton Championships and the Pan American Games) were held simultaneously in the same year. Derrick Ng
Derrick Ng (born September 21, 1987) is a male Canadian badminton player from Vancouver, British Columbia. He has been the top ranked men's doubles player on the continent and a contender in major international competitions. He is the current and five consecutive times National champion in men's doubles and has won several national and international titles since 2010 in both men's and mixed doubles. His older brother, Toby Ng, is a renowned, competitive badminton player and a professional coach at the Bellevue Badminton Club. Derrick is also an entrepreneur who created Skinetex Kinesiology Tape and also spends time coaching advanced to elite level athletes at the Bellevue Badminton Club like his brother does. Mary Alexandra "Alex" Bruce (born May 27, 1990) is a Canadian badminton player from Toronto, Ontario. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's doubles event with partner Michelle Li. Early career She started playing badminton at aged 8. Her parents were members of a badminton club that put on clinics for kids. She won silver in doubles at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games. Bruce studied Engineering and played Varsity Badminton for the University of Western Ontario, where she was named OUA Female Rookie of the Year in 2008. At the 2009 Canadian university and college national championships, she won two gold medals in doubles play, and a silver medal in women's singles. Luana Tamara de Oliveira Vicente (born 30 January 1994) is a Brazilian badminton player who won a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. Paula Lynn Cao Hok (née Obañana; born March 19, 1985) is a Filipino-American badminton player who was originally from Dumaguete, Philippines. In 2015, she won the women's doubles gold medals at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada partnered with Eva Lee. In 2016, she competed at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
