2014 PDC European Tour Event 5
The 2014 Gibraltar Darts Trophy was the fifth of eight PDC European Tour events on the 2014 PDC Pro Tour. The tournament took place at the Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar, between 27 and 29 June 2014. It featured a field of 48 players and £100,000 in prize money, with £20,000 going to the winner. James Wade won his first European Tour title by beating Steve Beaton 6–4 in the final. Prize money Qualification and format The top 16 players from thPDC ProTour Order of Merit on 19 May 2014 automatically qualified for the event. The remaining 32 places went to players from three qualifying events - 20 from the UK Qualifier (held in Crawley on 23 May), eight from the European Qualifier and four from the Host Nation Qualifier (both held at the venue the day before the event started). Victoria Stadium (Gibraltar)
Victoria Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Gibraltar. It is currently used mostly for Association football, football matches, but also hosts the annual Gibraltar Music Festival. It is located close to Gibraltar Airport just off Winston Churchill Avenue, Gibraltar, Winston Churchill Avenue. It was named after the wife of Gibraltarian people, Gibraltarian philanthropist John Mackintosh (philanthropist), John Mackintosh. Peter Stuart Wright (born 10 March 1970) is a Scottish professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he is currently ranked PDC Order of Merit, world number fourteen; he was ranked world number one on two occasions in 2022. Daryl Gurney
Daryl Gurney (born 22 March 1986) is a Northern Irish professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he is currently ranked world number twenty-five; he reached a peak ranking of world number three in 2019. Nicknamed "Superchin", he has won two PDC major singles titles: the 2017 World Grand Prix and the 2018 Players Championship Finals. Adam Hunt (born 21 August 1993) is an English professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He has won titles on both of the PDC's secondary tours: four titles on the Development Tour; and two on the Challenge Tour. Wesley Newton (born 27 August 1977) is an English professional darts player. Darts career Newton's first PDC major was the 2003 UK Open where he lost 8–6 to Mark Thomson in the last 32. Andrew Hamilton (born 16 March 1967), nicknamed The Hammer, is an English former professional darts player who competes in World Seniors Darts events. Jamie Robert Caven (born 10 March 1976) is an English former professional darts player who competed in Professional Darts Corporation and British Darts Organisation (BDO) events. He won seven PDC Pro Tour titles, including two in the same weekend in May 2013. Caven was also the 1993 World Youth Masters champion. Early life Caven has no sight in his right eye, after being stung by a bee when he was 18 months old. At the age of 17, Caven won the World Youth Masters.
