2014 Enfield Council Election
The 2014 Enfield Council election took place on 22 May 2014 to elect members of Enfield London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Labour party retained overall control of the council, increasing their majority over the Conservative party by five seats. Background The last election in 2010 saw Labour winning a majority with 36 seats, compared to 27 for the Conservatives. No other parties held seats. Election result Labour retained control, winning 41 seats, five of them gained from the Conservatives who dropped to 22 seats. Labour dominated in the east and south of the borough, retaining all their existing seats, while the Conservatives held most of their seats in the centre and west of the borough, though they lost two seats to Labour in Southgate Green ward, as well as single seats in Bush Hill Park, Chase and Winchmore Hill wards. The 2010 Enfield Council election took place on 6 May 2010 to elect members of Enfield London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Labour Party gained overall control of the council from the Conservative Party. Background The last election in 2006 had the Conservatives hold a majority with 34 seats, compared to 27 for Labour and 2 from the Save Chase Farm group. The UK Independence Party (UKIP, ) is a Eurosceptic, right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. Chase Farm Hospital
Chase Farm Hospital is a hospital on The Ridgeway, in Gordon Hill, Enfield, run by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital has its origins in a Poor Law orphanage established in 1886. The oldest part of the hospital, the "clock tower" building, was formerly the main part of the orphanage. Middlesex County Council started to admit elderly people to the facility in 1930 and it had developed into a care home for elderly people by 1938. The facility joined the National Health Service in 1948 and a new surgical block, known the Highlands Wing in memory of the local Highlands Hospital which had recently closed, was opened in 1995. In 1999 the hospital became part of the Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Hospitals Trust. Save Chase Farm was a local British political party that stood against the closure of departments of Chase Farm Hospital, London Borough of Enfield, Enfield. Save Chase Farm's leaders were Catherine Wilkinson and Kieron McGregor. They were both elected as local councillors to Enfield Council in 2006 Enfield London Borough Council election, May 2006. The party fielded nine candidates in the 2006 local council election. In the May 2010 elections both Wilkinson and McGregor stood again, both lost their seats to the Conservative Party (UK), Conservatives. As a political party, they disbanded after the 2010 election but continued to campaign against the closure of the maternity and A&E units of the hospital.
