2014 Bury Metropolitan Borough Council Election
Elections to Bury Council were held on 22 May 2014, along with the European Parliament elections, 2014. One third of the council was up for election, with each successful candidate to serve a four-year term of office, expiring in 2018. The Labour Party retained control of the Council. 17 seats were contested. The Labour Party won 12 seats, the Conservatives won 4 seats, and the Liberal Democrats won 1 seat. Metropolitan Borough Of Bury
The Metropolitan Borough of Bury is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester in North West England, just north of Manchester, to the east of Bolton and west of Rochdale. The borough is centred around the town of Bury but also includes other towns such as Ramsbottom, Tottington, Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich. Bury bounds the Lancashire districts of Rossendale and Blackburn with Darwen to the north. It is the 10th most populous borough in Greater Manchester. The Metropolitan Borough of Bury, which covers and has a population of 181,900, was created on 1 April 1974, with the transfer of functions from the county borough of Bury and the boroughs of Prestwich and Radcliffe, along with the urban districts of Tottington and Whitefield, and part of the urban district of Ramsbottom, all previously in Lancashire. 2014 European Parliament Election In The United Kingdom
The 2014 European Parliament election was the United Kingdom's component of the 2014 European Parliament election, held on Thursday 22 May 2014, coinciding with the 2014 local elections in England and Northern Ireland. In total, 73 Members of the European Parliament were elected from the United Kingdom using proportional representation. England, Scotland and Wales use a closed-list party list system of PR (with the D'Hondt method), while Northern Ireland used the single transferable vote (STV). Most of the election results were announced after 10pm on Sunday 25 May – with the exception of Scotland, which did not declare its results until the following day – after voting closed throughout the 28 member states of the European Union. James Daly (English Politician)
James Barry Daly (born 19 March 1980) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been the member of Parliament (MP) for Bury North since the 2019 general election. Early life Daly practiced criminal law as a solicitor for the defence, based in Greater Manchester for 16 years prior to becoming an MP. Political career He was previously the leader of the Conservative Group on Bury Council and since 2012, has been the councillor for the North Manor ward in Bury North. Daly stood in neighbouring Bolton North East at the 2015 and 2017 general elections, coming second with 32.8% and 42.2% of the vote respectively.
