2014 Austin Mayoral Election
The 2014 Austin mayoral election was held on November 4 and December 16, 2014 to elect the mayor of Austin, Texas. It saw the election of Steve Adler. This was the first election held according to the new schedule in which elections are held every four years during the United States midterm election. Steve Adler (politician)
Stephen Ira Adler (born March 23, 1956) is an American lawyer and politician who is the 58th and current mayor of Austin, Texas. Adler has been a practicing attorney in Austin in the areas of eminent domain and civil rights law for 35 years. For eight years he worked as the chief of staff and later general counsel to Democratic State Senator Eliot Shapleigh in the Texas Legislature. He has also worked with or board chaired Austin-based nonprofits and civic organizations, including the Texas Tribune, Anti-Defamation League, and Ballet Austin. A Democrat, Adler was elected to be mayor of Austin in the 2014 mayoral race and was sworn in on January 6, 2015; he was re-elected in 2018. He is the first mayor of Austin to serve under the 10-ONE council system. Mike Martinez
Michael W. Martinez (August 1, 1969) is a former Austin City Council member and former mayoral candidate in Austin, Texas. He served as the Board Chair of the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CapMetro), the Minority-Owned and Women-Owned Business Enterprise and Small Business Council Subcommittee. Martinez was a member of the Judicial Committee, Public Health and Human Services Subcommittee and was on the CapMetro Board of Directors. He has served on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas and worked as a diversity trainer with the National Coalition Building Institute. Martinez previously worked for the Austin Fire Department and was head of the firefighter's union. Shelly "Lee" Leffingwell (born October 13, 1939) is an American environmentalist and politician who served as the mayor of Austin, Texas, from June 22, 2009 to January 6, 2015. He was first elected to the Austin City Council in 2005, and won re-election in 2008. 2014 Texas Elections
The 2014 general election was held in the U.S. state of Texas on November 4, 2014. All of Texas's executive officers were up for election as well as a United States Senate seat, and all of Texas's thirty-six seats in the United States House of Representatives. Primary elections were held on March 4, 2014. Primary runoffs, required if no candidate wins a majority of the vote, were held on May 27, 2014. Elections were also held for the Texas legislature and proposition 1, seeking funds for Texas highways (which passed). A combination of retirements, incumbents seeking other offices and a primary defeat means that after the election, for the first time since 1874, all of Texas's executive offices were held by new officeholders.
