2014 A-League All Stars Game
The 2014 A-League All Stars Game was a football match that took place on 10 August 2014 at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, contested between the A-League All Stars and Italian Serie A champions Juventus. Background On 20 December 2013, it was confirmed that Juventus would compete against the All-Stars team on 10 August 2014, again hosted in Sydney. On 18 February 2014, it was announced that former Juventus and current Sydney FC captain Alessandro Del Piero will captain the All-Stars squad. It will be the first time Del Piero has played a match against his former club. On 7 April 2014, it was announced Adelaide United coach Josep Gombau will coach the All-Stars squad, chosen by fans who voted. A-League All Stars Game
The A-Leagues All Star Game is an association football match contested by the A-Leagues All Stars team against an invitee club. The All Stars team is made up of selected A-League Men or A-League Women players. The game is played during the footballing off-season, the first of which was held on 20 July 2013. After the 2014 edition, the All Star Game was not held for almost a decade, before the concept was revived in 2022 and was expected to continue for at least the 2023, 2024 and 2025 A-League seasons as part of the commercial agreement with the NSW State Government to play a "Football Festival" culminating with the A-League Grand final in Sydney for those three seasons. Josep Gombau
Josep Gombau Balague (born 5 June 1976) is a Spanish professional football manager. He is a former Barcelona youth team coach and has held multiple positions at the club's youth academy. Career Born in Amposta, Tarragona, Catalonia, Gombau was a goalkeeper, but switched to coaching at the age of 16. After coaching youth teams in Amposta and Espanyol, he was signed by Barcelona in 2003 as a youth academy coach. Mark Romano Birighitti (born 17 April 1991) is an Australian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for A-League Men side Perth Glory. Born in Perth, Birighitti played youth football at the Australian Institute of Sport before making his professional debut for Adelaide United.
