2013–14 Tennessee Volunteers Basketball Team
The 2013–14 Tennessee Volunteers basketball team represented the University of Tennessee in the 2013–14 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team's head coach was Cuonzo Martin, who was in his third season at Tennessee. The team played their home games at the Thompson–Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee as a member of the Southeastern Conference. Previous season The Vols posted a record of 20–13 (11–7 SEC) in the 2012–13 season and finished sixth in the SEC standings in Cuonzo Martin's second season as head coach. The season was highlighted by a 30-point victory over rival Kentucky and a victory over a team that competed in the Final Four, Wichita State. Cuonzo LaMar Martin (born September 23, 1971) is an American basketball coach and former player who is the former head coach of the Missouri Tigers men's basketball team. High school Playing alongside LaPhonso Ellis as a sophomore and junior, Martin played on two state championship teams for Lincoln High in his native East St. Louis, Illinois. Through his 3 years in the IHSA tournament, Martin scored 198 points and grabbed 111 rebounds in 12 games. In 2007, Martin and Ellis were voted among the " 100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament," recognizing their superior performance in their appearances in the tournament. College career Cuonzo Martin attended Purdue University, where he played for Gene Keady and alongside Wooden Award winner Glenn Robinson. The 2013–14 USC Upstate Spartans men's basketball team represented the University of South Carolina Upstate during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Spartans, led by 12th year head coach Eddie Payne, played their home games at the G. B. Hodge Center and were members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. They finished the season 19–15, 11–7 in A-Sun play to finish in third place. They advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun tournament where they lost to Mercer. The Cintas Center is a 10,250-seat multi-purpose arena and conference center at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. The arena officially opened in 2000 and was constructed through private donations as part of Xavier University's Century Campaign. The 2013–14 Xavier Musketeers men's basketball team represented Xavier University during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Led by fifth year head coach Chris Mack, they played their games at the Cintas Center and were first year members of the newly reorganized Big East Conference. They finished the season 21–13, 10–8 in Big East play to finish in a three-way tie for third place. They advanced to the semifinals of the Big East tournament where they lost to Creighton. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the First Round ("First Four") to NC State.
