2013–14 Los Angeles Kings Season
The 2013–14 Los Angeles Kings season was the 47th season (46th season of play) for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 5, 1967. The team would advance to the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs, where they in their first round series, beat the San Jose Sharks after being down three games to none, only the fourth such team to accomplish this feat in NHL history, and the second Stanley Cup winning team after the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs to do so. The Kings would eventually advance the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals, where they defeated the New York Rangers in five games to win their second Stanley Cup in franchise history. The Western Conference () is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974–75 NHL season, 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The 2013–14 Anaheim Ducks season was the 21st season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. The Ducks achieved their best regular season record in franchise history, amassing 116 points and finishing first in the Western Conference and second in the NHL, behind the Boston Bruins by only a single point. However, the Ducks only won one playoff series; after defeating the Dallas Stars in six games in the first round, they fell in seven games to their crosstown rival Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference Semifinal. Mathieu Garon
Mathieu Carol Garon (; born January 9, 1978) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Tampa Bay Lightning between 2000 and 2013. He was drafted 44th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, and was also a member of the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals, 2009 Stanley Cup-winning Pittsburgh Penguins, serving as the backup to Marc-Andre Fleury. Benjamin John Scrivens (born September 11, 1986) is a Canadian professional ice hockey executive and former player. He is the current team manager of the University of Denver Pioneers. Scrivens has played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Montreal Canadiens. He played four years with the Cornell Big Red of the ECAC Hockey. The 2013–14 Phoenix Coyotes season was the franchise's 35th season in the National Hockey League (NHL), the 18th in Arizona and the 42nd overall, including the seasons the franchise played in the World Hockey Association. The Stanley Cup () is the championship trophy awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoff champion. It is the oldest existing trophy to be awarded to a professional sports franchise in North America, and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) considers it to be one of the "most important championships available to the sport".
