The 2013–14 Lietuvos krepšinio lyga was the 21st season of the top-tier level professional basketball league of Lithuania, the Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL). Competition format Regular season During the regular season, which lasted from 26 September, until 27 April, all teams except Žalgiris, Lietuvos rytas ''Lietuvos rytas'' (lit. Lietuvos Krepšinio Lyga
Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL; ), also known as Betsafe LKL for sponsorship reasons, is the premier men's professional club basketball league in Lithuania. It is composed of 10 teams, and it is a member of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. The best LKL clubs are also annual participants of the top European-wide basketball competitions, including the top-tier level EuroLeague. On April 22, 1993, the Lietuvos krepšinio asociacija (LKA; ) was founded. It was the first professional sports organisation in Lithuania. Lietuvos krepšinio lyga was built on the foundation of the LKA. Former basketball player Šarūnas Marčiulionis is named as the founder of the league. BC Baltai
KK Atletas () is a professional basketball club that is based in Kaunas district, Lithuania. Currently the team plays in the National Basketball League, in the past Atletas participated in the LKL and the Baltic League, before dissolving in 2007 and becoming BC Aisčiai-Atletas. In 2009, the team merged with BC Kaunas Triobet and played with the names of Kaunas, Baltai and LSU-Baltai. In 2013 club was renamed again to LSU-Atletas, which was merged with the NKL champions of the same name. Atletas are multiple time LKL finalists, and were once considered to be one of the strongest teams in Lithuania. The NBA center Žydrūnas Ilgauskas represented Atletas at the very beginning of his career. Lithuanian basketball star Saulius Štombergas was also a key player of the team back then. Steponas Babrauskas
Steponas Babrauskas (born June 20, 1984) is a Lithuanian professional basketball coach and former player. He currently serves as assistant coach at CBet Jonava. Professional career Babrauskas was a runner-up in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) with Lietuvos Rytas, in 2004. He won the Latvian Basketball League (LBL) with ASK Riga, in 2007. In 2008, he returned to Lietuvos Rytas, and was named the team's captain. With Rytas, he won the European secondary level EuroCup championship, the Lithuanian League championship, and the Baltic League (BBL) championship. He was one of the most hated opposing players by the rival fans of Žalgiris Kaunas. He had a brief stint in Turkey, in the 2014-15 season, a year removed after he left Rytas. Renaldas Seibutis
Renaldas Seibutis (born July 23, 1985) is a Lithuanian former professional basketball player. He represented the senior Lithuanian national team internationally. Professional career Europe In the 2010–11 season, Seibutis played for Olin Edirne Basketbol of the Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL), where he was one of the team's leaders, averaging 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Romualdas Brazauskas (born July 31, 1960 in Biržai) is a Lithuanian basketball referee. After graduation from Vilnius Pedagogical Institute in 1983, Brazauskas became a FIBA judge in 1987 and since then he has judged basketball games in the Olympics, FIBA European and World Championships, Euroleague Basketball, Euroleague (including ten final games). In 2010, Brazauskas was awarded a Golden Whistle by FIBA at the World Championship in Turkey becoming a second person in history to receive this honorary award. Šarūnas Jasikevičius (; born 5 March 1976) is a Lithuanian professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach for Fenerbahçe S.K. (basketball), Fenerbahçe Beko of the Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi and the EuroLeague. During his playing career, standing at a height of tall, he played at the point guard position. Kšyštof Lavrinovič (; born 1 November 1979) is a Lithuanian former professional basketball player. During his playing career, he played at the power forward and Center (basketball), center positions. Artūras Valeika (born 11 August 1985) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player for CBet Jonava of the Lithuanian Basketball League. He is 2 times champion in Romania with CSM Oradea, and one time SuperCup winner with the ”Red Lions”. Born in Vilnius, Lithuanian SSR, Soviet Union, Valeika started his career in 2003 playing for Vilnius SSK-Nord/LB Draudimas which was playing in the second Lithuanian league LKAL. He spent four years playing college basketball in the United States, first at Midland College and then at Weber State University. Mindaugas Lukauskis locally also known as ''the Legend'' or ''the Iron man'', (born 19 May 1979) is a Lithuanian former professional basketball player. Lukauskis holds numerous Lithuanian Basketball League records and is the league's all-time leading scorer. Professional career Lukauskis began his basketball career in the Panevežys youth basketball clubs, being the leader there. He got attention from the LKL, and in 2001, he joined Sakalai. In 2002, he signed a one-year contract with Alytus, and he was the top scorer on the team. In 2003, he joined Lithuanian basketball giant Lietuvos Rytas. BC Prienai () was a Lithuanian professional basketball club based in Prienai. They played domestically in the Lithuanian Basketball League every year since winning the promotion in 2009. During the 2008–09 season, then called Rūdupis, they became the champion of the NKL and won the challenge match for a slot in the LKL. In their debut LKL season Rūdupis took seventh place, while next two seasons brought BC Prienai two bronze LKL medals. BC Prienai played in EuroCup 2011–12 with moderate success; the team won 3 games out of 6, but nonetheless failed to qualify for the next stage.
