2013 Southern Jaguars Football Team
The 2013 Southern Jaguars football team represented Southern University in the 2013 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Jaguars were led by first year head coach Dawson Odums, who was made the new head coach he served serving as interim head coach for the final nine games of the previous season. The Jaguars played their home games at Ace W. Mumford Stadium and were a member of the West Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The Jaguars finished the season with a record, as West Division Champions and with a victory over 2013 Jackson State Tigers football team, Jackson State in the SWAC Championship Game. Dawson Tayrone Odums is an American football coach. He was most recently the head coach at Norfolk State University, a position he held from 2021 to 2024. Odums served as the interim head football coach at Clark Atlanta University for one season, in 2004, and head football coach at Southern University and A&M College from 2013 to 2020. The 2013 Alabama State Hornets football team represented Alabama State University as a member of the East Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) during 2013 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Led by seventh-year head coach Reggie Barlow, the Hornets compiled an overall record of 8–4 with a mark of 7–2 in conference play, tying for second place in the SWAC East Division. Alabama State played home games at New ASU Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama. Jackson State–Southern Football Rivalry
The Jackson State–Southern football rivalry, often informally called the BoomBox Classic, is a college football rivalry between the Tigers of Jackson State University (JSU) and the Jaguars of Southern University (SU). An annual conference game between two historically black universities in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), its location usually rotates between JSU's Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi and SU's A. W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but it has also been held at larger venues to accommodate the large crowds that the game draws. As of 2023, the Jaguars lead the series 35–33, not including two wins that Southern was ordered to vacate by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
