Hlinka Gretzky Cup
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is an annual international under-18 ice hockey tournament administered by Hockey Canada, the Czech Ice Hockey Association, and the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation. Held since 1991, it has been contested under various titles and in various countries, including Japan, Mexico, and Canada. From 1997 through 2017, hosting duties for the event alternated between, and were later split between, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. During this period, the event was known as the Nations Cup, the U-18 Junior World Cup, and Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. From 2018 through 2023, the tournament will alternate between Edmonton/ Red Deer, Alberta and Břeclav, Czech Republic/Piešťany, Slovakia. The event is not sanctioned by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), which holds its own U18 championship in April. 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships
The 2013 IIHF World U20 Championship (commonly known as the 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships) was the 37th edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship (WJC). It was hosted in Ufa, Russia. It began on December 26, 2012, and ended with the gold medal game played on January 5, 2013. The United States defeated defending-champion Sweden 3–1 to win their third title, their first one since 2010. American goalie John Gibson was named MVP of the tournament. Russia defeated Canada 6–5 in overtime to win the bronze medal, sending the Canadians home without a medal for the first time since 1998. 2013 IIHF World U18 Championships
The 2013 IIHF U18 World Championship was the 15th IIHF World U18 Championship and was hosted in Sochi, Russia. This was also a test event for the facilities to be used in the 2014 Winter Olympics. It began on 18 April 2013 with the gold medal game played on 28 April 2013. Canada won its third under-18 championship by defeating the four time defending champion Americans 3–2. The host Russians lost to Finland 2–1 in the bronze medal game. MVP Connor McDavid set Canadian records for goals and points in the tournament. Top Division Format A new format was implemented. The four best ranked teams from the preliminary round advanced to the quarterfinals, while the last placed teams played a relegation round in a best of three format to determine the relegated team. Easton Arena (styled EASTON Arena, formerly Patrícia Ice Arena 37 and Zimný Štadión Piešťany) is an arena in Piešťany, Slovakia. It was built in 1986 and is primarily used for ice hockey and is the home arena of ŠHK 37 Piešťany. It also hosted matches for the 2002 IIHF World U18 Championships and is a perennial host of the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. It has a capacity of 5,000. The arena was the primary host of the 1987 World Junior Hockey Championships, which are most notably remembered for the last game played in the tournament on January 4, 1987. In the contest between Canada and the Soviet Union, a bench-clearing brawl erupted in the second period. As the fighting got worse, the decision was made to cut the lights. The game was ultimately suspended and both teams were disqualified (the Soviets had already been eliminated from medal contention but Canada had already clinched a medal and had a chance at gold). Alexander Nedeljkovic ( ', born January 7, 1996) is an American professional ice hockey goaltender for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Nedeljkovic was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round (37th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Junior Nedeljkovic grew up in Cleveland, where he played for the Cleveland Barons bantam AAA team, and played with them in the 2009 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.
