Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the program at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. Basic play The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. Talita Antunes
Talita Antunes da Rocha (born August 29, 1982) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player, playing as a blocker. She was Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, FIVB rookie of the year in 2005, and FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, World Tour Winner twice, in 2013 and 2015. Career Born in Aquidauana, Antunes caught the attention of Beach volleyball at the 1996 Summer Olympics, Olympic Champion Jackie Silva at the age of 19. From the first time they played together, in Maceió in 2001, Jackie was impressed with Antunes' style and invited the young player to partner with her in 2002. The pair won the South American Championship in La Paz, Bolívia 2002. After Silva was injured, Talita continued the 2002 season with Renata Ribeiro as her new partner. They won the championships in the Challenger Banco do Brasil in Natal and they were runners-up in the games held in Rio and Recife. Kerri Walsh Jennings
Kerri Lee Walsh Jennings (born August 15, 1978) is an American professional beach volleyball player, three-time Olympic gold medalist, and a one-time Olympic bronze medalist. She is the beach volleyball leader in career victories as of 2016 having won 135 international and domestic tournaments. (Disputed: The source includes only American domestic titles.) Walsh Jennings and teammate Misty May-Treanor were the gold medalists in beach volleyball at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. They also won the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in 2003, 2005 and 2007. The pair set various records throughout their partnership, including a win streak of 112 consecutive matches (19 consecutive tournament titles) in 20072008, breaking their own previous record of 89 consecutive match wins. Carolina Solberg Salgado
Carolina Solberg Salgado (born 6 August 1987) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. She won a gold medal in the 2004 FIVB Under-18 World Championship and again in the Under-21 World Championship in 2005. Ricardo Santos (beach Volleyball)
Ricardo Alex Costa Santos (born 6 January 1975) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. Santos won the silver medal in the men's beach volleyball competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney with partner Zé Marco de Melo. Santos also represented his native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. There he claimed the gold medal, teaming up with Emanuel Rego, with whom he won the world title in October 2003. The same pairing went on to win the bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he teamed with Pedro Cunha, but they lost in the quarter-finals. Gstaad
Gstaad ( , ) is a town in the German language, German-speaking section of the Canton of Bern in southwestern Switzerland. Phil Dalhausser
Philip Peter Dalhausser (born January 26, 1980) is an American former professional beach volleyball player, who played as a blocker. He and his former playing partner, Todd Rogers, were the 2007 AVP Tour and FIVB world champions. Dalhausser and Rogers dominated both the domestic US tour and now the FIVB international tour, winning #1 team honors on both tours in 2010. Dalhausser and Rogers were Olympic gold medalists at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics. In 2023, Dalhausser was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. Personal life Dalhausser was born in Baden, Aargau, Switzerland, to a German father, Peter, and a Swiss mother, Marianne. He now calls his hometown Lake Nona, Florida. Pedro Solberg Salgado
Pedro Salgado Collett Solberg (born 27 March 1986) is a Brazilian male beach volleyball player. Solberg's mother, Isabel Salgado, was herself a successful beach volleyball player who in 1994 won a FIVB World Tour event in Miami. His sisters Maria Clara Salgado and Carolina Solberg Salgado are also beach volleyball players who have played since 2005. Career Solberg won the U18 World Championship with three different partners in 2002 and U21 in 2003 and 2006 in beach volleyball. In 2006 he started with Roberto Lopes at several FIVB World Tour tournaments with fourth place being his best result.
