2013 Houston Astros Season
The 2013 Houston Astros season was the 52nd season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise located in Houston, Texas, their 49th as the Astros, and 14th at Minute Maid Park. Further, it was the Astros' inaugural season as members of both the American League (AL) and AL West division, after having spent their first 51 seasons in the National League (NL). The Astros entered the season with a 55–107 record and last-place finish in the NL Central division, their worst-ever record to date, as well the second consecutive of the first two 100-loss seasons in franchise history. The 2013 season was the first for Bo Porter as manager, the 21st in Astros' franchise history, succeeding Tony DeFrancesco. American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Alejandro Treviño Castro (born August 26, 1957) is a Mexican former professional baseball catcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Houston Astros from 1978 to 1990. David Stefan "Bud" Norris (March 2, 1985) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Houston Astros, Baltimore Orioles, San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, and St. Louis Cardinals. The Lone Star Series (also known as the Silver Boot Series) is a Major League Baseball (MLB) rivalry featuring Texas' two major league franchises, the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. Anthony John DeFrancesco (born April 24, 1963) is an American professional baseball coach. Previously, he was interim manager with the Houston Astros; served one season as third-base coach for the Oakland Athletics; spent six seasons as manager of the Sacramento River Cats; and was a minor league coach and manager for the Oakland Athletics farm system for fourteen years, managing teams in the Arizona Rookie League, Northwest League, California League, Texas League, and Pacific Coast League (PCL). This division was created in 1994, by moving two teams from the National League West (the Cincinnati Reds and the Houston Astros) and three teams from the National League East (the Chicago Cubs, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the St. Louis Cardinals).
