2013 Dubai World Cup
The 2013 Dubai World Cup was a horse race held at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday 30 March 2013. It was the 18th running of the Dubai World Cup. The winner was Team Valor, Arrowfield Stud & Darley Stud's Animal Kingdom, a five-year-old chestnut entire horse trained in the United States by Graham Motion and ridden by Joel Rosario. Animal Kingdom's victory was the first in the race for his jockey, trainer and owners. Animal Kingdom had been the American Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse in 2011 when his wins included the Kentucky Derby but injury problems restricted him to only five races in almost twenty-three months before he competed in Dubai. In the World Cup he started the 11/2 third favourite and won by two lengths and four and three quarter lengths from the British-trained challengers Red Cadeaux and Planteur. Animal Kingdom (horse)
Animal Kingdom (foaled in Kentucky on March 20, 2008) is a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2011 Kentucky Derby and 2013 Dubai World Cup. His Derby win took place on May 7, 2011, before a record crowd of 164,858. After the Derby, Animal Kingdom finished second in the Preakness Stakes and sixth in the Belmont Stakes before his career was disrupted by injury. He returned to finish second in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Mile before winning the Dubai World Cup as a five-year-old in 2013. Animal Kingdom is the first Kentucky Derby winner to win a Grade One race at the age of five. He has won Grade 1 races on both dirt and synthetic surfaces. Marco Botti
Marco Botti (born 23 December 1976) is an Italian racehorse trainer who is based in Great Britain, working from his stable ''Prestige Place'' in Newmarket, Suffolk. Botti is the son of Alduino Botti, a champion racehorse trainer in Italy, and worked for trainers Luca Cumani, Ed Dunlop and the Godolphin Racing organization before becoming a trainer in his own right. William Buick
William Buick (born 22 July 1988) is a Norwegian-British flat jockey. He shared the champion apprentice jockey title in 2008 with David Probert and won the Lester Award for Apprentice Jockey of the Year in 2007 and 2008. From 2010 to 2014 he was stable jockey to John Gosden. In 2015 he signed with Godolphin. Buick won his first Group1 race in Canada in 2010 and since then has won Group 1 races in England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Christophe Soumillon
Christophe Soumillon (born 4 June 1981) is a Belgian jockey based in France. Career Coming from a racing background, Soumillon is the son of jump jockey Jean-Marc Soumillon. He rode in pony races and left Belgium aged fifteen to go to the racing school in Chantilly, France, where he was then apprenticed to trainer Cédric Boutin. Soumillon rode his first Group race winner aged eighteen when Berine's Son, trained by André Fabre, won the 2000 Prix de Fontainebleau. Silvestre de Sousa (born 31 December 1980 in São Francisco do Maranhão, Brazil) is a Brazilian flat racing jockey based in Britain. He was champion jockey of Britain in 2015, with 132 winners, and again in 2017 and 2018. Childhood and early career He was born in São Francisco do Maranhão, Maranhão. André Fabre
André Fabre (born 9 December 1945) is a French thoroughbred horse racing trainer. The son of a diplomat, Fabre graduated from university with a law degree but then decided to pursue a career in thoroughbred horse racing. He began by working in the stables as a groom then as a schooling rider. He became France's leading jump jockey, winning more than two hundred and fifty races including the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris. When he turned to training horses, Fabre proved even more successful, first with jump horses then with flat racers. Mickaël Barzalona (born 3 August 1991 in Avignon, France) is a French-born Thoroughbred horse racing jockey, who is the retained jockey in France for Godolphin (racing), Godolphin. Career Barzalona was born into a racing family, his grandfather is Christian Barzalona a trainer based in Corsica and his uncle Armand Barzalona a former flat and jumps jockey.
