2013 Copa ASOBAL
The 2013 Copa ASOBAL was the 24th edition of the Copa ASOBAL. It took place in the Palau Blaugrana, in Barcelona, Catalonia, on 21 & 22 December 2013. The tournament was hosted by FC Barcelona and Barcelona city council, being the second time Barcelona hosts Copa ASOBAL. FC Barcelona won its overall ninth title, third in a row and qualified for 2014–15 EHF Champions League. Palau Blaugrana
Palau Blaugrana (, meaning in English "Blue and Garnet Palace") is an arena in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, belonging to FC Barcelona. The 7,585 seating capacity arena is home to the basketball, handball, roller hockey, and futsal divisions of FC Barcelona. Palau Blaugrana is located between Mini Estadi and the Camp Nou. There's also an awards showcase and pro-shop inside. History Built in 1971, the stadium originally held 5,696 spectators, but the facility was remodeled in 1994, to fit the current capacity of 7,585. During the 1992 Summer Olympics, the arena hosted several events, including roller hockey, taekwondo and judo. The arena's main court area was renovated in 2016. The Liga ASOBAL 2013–14 was the 24th season since its establishment. FC Barcelona was the defending champions. The campaign began on Friday, 13 September 2013. The last matchday was played on Sunday, 25 May 2014. A total of 16 teams contested the league, 13 of which had already contested in the 2012–13 season, and three of which were promoted from the División de Plata 2012–13. FC Barcelona won their fourth title in a row gathering thirteen ASOBAL titles. FC Barcelona also equaled the record of BM Ciudad Real when in 2009-10 season won every match. Siarhei Rutenka, also Sergej Rutenka ( be, Сяргей Рутэнка; born 29 September 1981) is a Belarusian former handball player. Besides Belarusian citizenship, he also acquired Slovenian citizenship in 2003. In January 2008, he received the Spanish nationality. His preferred position was outside left, but he was also capable of playing as the pivot and playmaker. He came to prominence while playing for the Slovenian club RK Celje and earlier for RK Gorenje. Kiril Lazarov ( mk, Кирил Лазаров, born 10 May 1980) is a retired Macedonian handball player and current coach of the North Macedonia national handball team and RK Alkaloid. Lazarov holds the record for most goals scored in a single World Men's Handball Championship (92). He is also the all-time top scorer in the EHF Champions League and the only player to have scored more than 1,300 goals. He is regarded as one of the greatest handball players of all time.
