2013 CWHL Draft
The 2013 CWHL Draft was held in August 2013. Jessica Wong became the first visible minority selected with the first pick overall. Wong was also part of another unique piece of draft history. Her teammate from the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, Katie Wilson, was picked second overall. It marked the first time that two NCAA teammates were selected first and second overall. In addition, Blake Bolden became the first ever African American picked in the first round of said draft. Georgia Moore, a member of the Australian national women's team became the first Australian born player selected in the draft. Along with Julie Paetsch, both had experience competing in women's tackle football in the Western Women's Canadian Football League. Moore spent one season with the Okotoks Lady Outlaws, while Paetsch enjoyed multiple seasons with the Saskatoon Valkyries. Strathmore Rockies
The Strathmore Rockies were a professional women's ice hockey team in the Western Women's Hockey League (WWHL). The team played its home games in Strathmore Family Center Arena, in Strathmore, Alberta, Canada. History Their first season in the WWHL was in 2008-09 and its team founders were Samantha Holmes and Brigitte Lessard. The idea to start her own team stemmed from the fact that there were many elite hockey players in Calgary, but not all of them had the opportunity to play for the Calgary Oval X-Treme. Holmes and Lessard founded the Strathmore Rockies so that elite level players in Alberta would have another team to compete for. Holmes also handled the day-to-day tasks of running the Strathmore team. Part of her accomplishments included player scouting, sponsorship and marketing campaigns to operate the team. Brittany Ott
Brittany "The Otter" Ott (born June 12, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey player. , Ott plays for the New Hampshire region team in the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association. She previously played two seasons for the Boston Blades in the Canadian Women's Hockey League and four seasons with Boston Pride of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL). Ott played college hockey for the Maine Black Bears before declaring herself into the 2013 CWHL Draft. She is the first goaltender to have won the Clarkson Cup and the Isobel Cup in a career. Alyssa Baldin
Alyssa Baldin (born February 15, 1990) is an elite women's ice hockey player who has also competed for the Canada women's national inline hockey team. With regards to Baldin's women's ice hockey career, she has competed at the university level in both the NCAA and CIS. Acquired by the Toronto Furies in the 2013 CWHL Draft, she would capture the Clarkson Cup in 2014. Providence Friars Women's Ice Hockey
The Providence Friars women's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the Providence College. The Friars are a member of Hockey East. They play at the 3,030-seat Schneider Arena in Providence, Rhode Island. History In the 1978–79 season, the Friars held the distinction of being the first team to play the new Harvard Crimson women's ice hockey team. The result was a 17–0 triumph. In 1984, the Friars won the inaugural Eastern College Athletic Conference Women's Championship. The Harvard Crimson women's ice hockey team represents Harvard University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I women's hockey. Harvard competes as a member of the ECAC Conference and plays its home games at the Bright Hockey Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Jillian Dempsey
Jillian T. Dempsey (born January 19, 1991) is an American ice hockey player who currently captains the Boston Pride in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). She currently holds the all-time PHF records for games played, goals, assists, and points, and has won both the Clarkson Cup and the Isobel Cup. Career She played for the Harvard Crimson women's ice hockey team from 2009 to 2013, serving as team captain in her final season. Catherine Herron
Catherine Herron (born 24 June 1983) is a Canadian ice hockey goalie and coach. Biography Early life Catherine Herron started playing hockey at the age of 8, encouraged by her uncle, Denis Herron, a goalie who played for the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins and Kansas City Scouts. She played on boys' teams until the age of 14. Playing career Herron played 2 seasons (2002–03 and 2003–04) for the St. Lawrence College Patriots in the AA College Women's Hockey League then 4 years with the McGill University Martlets in the Canadian University Championship. In 2009–10, Herron was the first goalkeeper on the inaugural women's hockey team of the University of Montreal Carabins. She played 15 games with a 2.95 average and a .904 save average. Robert Morris Colonials Women's Ice Hockey
The Robert Morris Colonials women's ice hockey program represents Robert Morris University. The Colonials competed in the College Hockey America conference. The program was suspended, along with the Men's team, after an announcement by the university on May 26, 2021. In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as the goalie) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. The goaltender mostly plays in or near the area in front of the net called the '' goal crease'' (often referred to simply as '' the crease''). Goaltenders tend to stay at or beyond the top of the crease to cut down on the angle of shots.
