The 2013 Australia Day Honours were announced on 26 January 2013 by the Governor-General of Australia, Quentin Bryce. Officer Of The Order Of Australia
The Order of Australia is an Australian honours and awards system, Australian honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Monarchy of Australia, Queen of Australia, on the Advice (constitutional law), advice of then prime minister Gough Whitlam. Before the establishment of the order, Australians could receive Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom, British honours, which continued to be issued in parallel until 1992. Appointments to the order are made by the Governor-General of Australia, governor-general, "with the approval of The Sovereign", according to recommendations made by the Council for the Order of Australia. Natalie Miller
Natalie Rona Miller is an Australian film distributor, exhibitor and producer. She is known as the founder of film distribution house Sharmill Films, and the Melbourne theatres Longford Cinema and Cinema Nova. Film industry career Miller studied at Methodist Ladies' College, Melbourne, and then completed an arts degree at the University of Melbourne. She began her career working in journalism and public relations at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, then entered the film industry working on public relations for the Melbourne Film Festival for 17 years. In the mid-1960s, she was so impressed by Luis Buñuel's surrealist film ''The Exterminating Angel'', which had shown at the festival, that she purchased the Australian distribution rights herself and exhibited it at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne to give the film a wider audience. Bonita Mabo
Ernestine Bonita Mabo (née Neehow; – 26 November 2018), was an Australian educator and activist for Aboriginal Australians, Torres Strait Islanders, and Australian South Sea Islanders. She was the wife of Eddie Mabo until his death in 1992. Early life Ernestine Bonita Neehow was born in Halifax, Queensland, one of 10 children. She was an Australian South Sea Islander of Ni-Vanuatu descent whose ancestors were "Blackbirding, blackbirded" to work in the sugar cane industry in Queensland. Her grandfather was blackbirded from Tanna Island in what is now Vanuatu. Career In 1973, Eddie and Bonita Mabo established the Black Community School in Townsville, where children could learn their own culture rather than white culture. Murray McLean (ambassador)
Alistair Murray McLean is the former Chair of the Australian Government's Australia Japan Foundation, and is a former Non Resident Fellow of the Lowy Institute. Prior to this, McLean was a senior career officer of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade until 29 February 2012. He joined the Department as the Department of External Affairs (later Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) in 1970 and has had wide experience, particularly on Asian issues. Greg Hartung
Gregory Neil Hartung (born 3 June 1948) is a leading Australian and international sport administrator. He has an extensive and distinguished career in sport particularly in terms of administration and journalism. He was President of the Australian Paralympic Committee from 1997 to 2013 and served as vice-president of the International Paralympic Committee 2009–13. Personal Hartung was born in Maryborough, Queensland in 1948. His father was a hairdresser and mother was a nurse. His father died in 1950 from a war related illness and mother died when he was 14. Peter Gavin Hall
Peter Gavin Hall (20 November 1951 – 9 January 2016) was an Australian researcher in probability theory and mathematical statistics. The American Statistical Association described him as one of the most influential and prolific theoretical statisticians in the history of the field. The School of Mathematics and Statistics Building at The University of Melbourne was renamed the Peter Hall building in his honour on 9 December 2016. Education Hall attended Sydney Technical High School in Bexley, NSW during the years 1964–1969. He placed consistently high in examination results and in his final year, was among the top achievers in his form, and the winner of Old Boys' Union Mathematics prize. Paul William Dyer AO is an Australian musician, conductor and artistic director. He is the artistic director and co-founder of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and the Brandenburg Choir. He has played an important role in developing historically informed performance practice of Baroque and early music in Australia. Career Dyer studied piano and harpsichord at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and undertook postgraduate studies with Bob van Asperen at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
