Newtown () is a town in Powys, Wales. It lies on the River Severn in the community of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn, within the Historic counties of Wales, historic boundaries of Montgomeryshire. Latham Park
Latham Park is a multi-purpose stadium in Newtown, Wales. It is currently used for football matches and is the home ground of Newtown A.F.C. The stadium holds 5,000 people and is named after Wales international footballer George Latham (1881–1939), who began his footballing career at the club. In the late 1940s, the Officials and General Committee of Newtown A.F.C. decided a new venue had to be constructed. Latham Park opened in August 1951, and it has been the home of Newtown A.F.C. since. The first competitive game at the stadium took place on 25 August, 1951, between Newtown and Aberystwyth, with Newtown winning with 4 - 0, in the Central Wales League, with the stadium housing 1,211 spectators. The site's largest number of spectators was for a 28 June 1956 game, between Newtown and Swansea City in the Welsh Cup, with 5,004 attendees. Michael Anthony Howard (born 2 December 1978) is an English footballer who plays as a defender who plays for Afan Lido. Career Born in Birkenhead, Merseyside, Howard initially started his career with Liverpool before being signed as a trainee by Tranmere Rovers. He was signed by Jim Harvey for Morecambe from Swansea City, where he had been a regular for 6 seasons, at the start of the 2004–05 season. His consistent performances at left-back saw him win the 'Junior Red of the Year' award at the award ceremony at the end of the 2005–06 season. This award was voted for by members of the Morecambe Junior Reds Supporters' Club. In January 2008, Howard joined Oxford United on a short-term loan deal. He was released by Morecambe in May 2009 and subsequently joined Welsh Premier side Llanelli, making his debut in the Europa League victory against Motherwell.
