2012–13 SM-liiga Season
The 2012–13 SM-liiga season was the 38th season of the SM-liiga, the top level of ice hockey in Finland, since the league's formation in 1975. The title was won by Ässät Pori who defeated Tappara Tampere in the finals. Teams * Head coaches marked with ‡ took their jobs mid-season. Regular season Each team played four times against every other team (twice home and twice away), getting to 52 games. Additionally, the teams were divided to two groups, where teams would play one extra game. One group included Ässät, Blues, HIFK, Jokerit, Kärpät, Lukko and TPS, while other had HPK, Ilves, JYP, KalPa, Pelicans, SaiPa and Tappara. Additionally, there were two games where teams could choose the opponents. These were played back-to-back in January and the choices were made in December, with team with lowest point total to that date was able to choose first. SM-liiga
The Liiga, colloquially called the Finnish Elite League in English or FM-ligan in Swedish, is the top professional ice hockey league in Finland. The league comprises 16 teams from all around Finland with relegation and promotion between the Mestis. The winner of the Liiga playoffs is awarded the Kanada-malja at the end of each season. Teams from the Liiga participate in the IIHF's annual Champions Hockey League (CHL), competing for the European Trophy. Participation is based on the strength of the various leagues in Europe (excluding the European/Asian Kontinental Hockey League). The Liiga was established in 1975 to replace the former SM-sarja, which was fundamentally an amateur competition. The Liiga is not directly overseen by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, but the league and association have an agreement of cooperation. Espoo Blues
Kiekko-Espoo is a Finnish professional ice hockey club founded in 2018 as a continuation of the Kiekko-Espoo team originally founded in 1984. Kiekko-Espoo men's team plays in the Liiga, where they were promoted for the 2024–25 Liiga season, 2024–25 season, and the Kiekko-Espoo Naiset, women's team plays in the Auroraliiga, where they hold the most championships of any club. Kiekko-Espoo's junior teams play at national league levels in U16, U18 and U20 juniors. The junior teams of Espoo Blues and Kiekko-Espoo played under Kiekko-Espoo Juniorit ry until 2014. Ari-Pekka Selin
Ari-Pekka Selin (born May 17, 1963) is a former professional ice hockey player and coach. During the 2013–2014 season, he coached both Barys Astana of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and the Kazakhstan men's national ice hockey team. He was hired to be the Barys' head coach on June 4, 2013, replacing Vladimir Krikunov. On June 11, 2014, he was relieved as coach of the Kazakh National Team. It was reported a week later that he had been replaced as coach of Barys by Andrei Nazarov. Ville Peltonen
Ville Sakari Peltonen (born 24 May 1973) is a Finnish ice hockey coach and a former professional ice hockey forward. Peltonen was drafted by the San Jose Sharks as their third round pick, 58th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. During his professional career, he has played 382 NHL games for Sharks, Nashville Predators and Florida Panthers. Internationally, he represented the Finland men's national ice hockey team, and was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2016. Playing career Peltonen started playing hockey with Etelä-Vantaan Urheilijat (EVU), and moved to HIFK when he was ten years old. He debuted the Finnish SM-liiga in 1991–92 SM-liiga season, playing six games in regular season. Helsinki Ice Hall
The Helsinki Ice Hall (, ), colloquially called Nordis, is an indoor arena located in the Taka-Töölö neighborhood of Helsinki, Finland. The arena has a seating capacity of 8,200. History Helsinki Ice Hall has been the home of HIFK of the Liiga since its construction in 1966. The arena has also served as the home of Jokerit, first from 1967 until the team moved to Helsinki Halli (previously Hartwall Arena) in 1997, and again for some of their home games beginning in 2023. Helsinki Ice Hall used to be the main venue for the majority of important ice sports events and indoor arena concerts held in Finland but, after the constructions of Gatorade Center in 1990, Hartwall Arena in 1997, and Tampere Deck Arena in 2021, many of the largest events now take place in the newer arenas. Raimo Summanen
Raimo Olavi Summanen (born March 2, 1962) is a former professional ice hockey forward and the current head coach of HIFK of the Finnish Elite League. He is also a former coach of the Finnish national team. He was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the sixth round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft, 125th overall, and spent his NHL career with Edmonton and the Vancouver Canucks. HIFK (a traditional abbreviation of the Swedish name Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna, Helsingfors, English: "Sporting Society Comrades, Helsinki") is a professional ice hockey team based in Helsinki, Finland that plays in the SM-liiga, the sport's top-level league in Finland. Arto Markus Laatikainen (born May 24, 1980) is a Finnish professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with HPK of the Finnish Liiga.
