2012 Winmau World Masters
The 2012 Winmau World Masters was a major televised tournament on the BDO/ WDF calendar for 2012. It took place from 11 to 14 October, with 11 October play at the Costello Stadium for the untelevised matches, and 12–14 October play at the Hull City Hall, which hosted the televised element of the event for the second time, taking over from the nearby Hull Arena who hosted for one year in 2011 Scott Waites and Lisa Ashton both attempted to defend their titles they won for the first time last year, however Stephen Bunting and Julie Gore took the main titles after Waites and Ashton lost their opening matches. This tournament was known for being Phill Nixon's last major tournament. Nixon died on 9 August 2013 from cancer. Phill Nixon
Phillip Nixon (13 March 1956 – 9 August 2013) was an English darts player from Ferryhill, County Durham. He was the runner up in the 2007 BDO World Darts Championship in his first appearance. Career Before the 2007 BDO World Darts Championship, Nixon's best performances came in reaching the quarter-finals of the 2002 Winmau World Masters and the semi-final of the 2004 British Open. After 20 years of attempting, 2007 was the first year Nixon had managed to qualify for the BDO World Darts Championship. Bookmakers had him as a 150–1 shot to win the title, before the event had started. Nixon came through three separate qualifying competitions at county, national and international level to secure his Lakeside debut. Benito Van De Pas
Benito van de Pas (born 18 January 1993) is a former Dutch professional darts player who formerly competed in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Van de Pas obtained a PDC Tour Card in 2014 and won three ranking Players Championship events on the 2016 PDC Pro Tour. He is a three-time quarter-finalist in PDC major events, reaching the last eight at the 2015 Players Championship Finals and the World Grand Prix in 2016 and 2017. However, his form declined and he lost his Tour Card at the end of 2020. Richie George
Richard George (born 18 December 1989) is an English former professional darts player. He was born in Essex and is the son of former world championship finalist Bobby George. They became the first father-and-son duo to play in the BDO version of the World Championship, when Richie played in the 2013 event. Career Richie played darts as a junior, but then left the game. Geert De Vos
Geert De Vos (born 6 October 1981) is a Belgian darts player. His nickname is "Foxy". Career In 2012, De Vos qualified for the first time for BDO World Darts Championship; this performance led to a wildcard for the Zuiderduin Masters. During this tournament, he lost his first match against the eventual winner Scott Waites 5–3. During the World Championship, De Vos played Tony West, the eleventh seed. Martin Atkins (darts Player)
Martin Atkins (born 24 December 1965) is an English professional darts player. His nickname is The Assassin. Career Atkins has been a Yorkshire county player since 1996 and has represented the England national side in many occasions including 3 times in the Six Nations, winning all three, and once in the World Cup in 2011, contributing to England's best performance since 1995. He reached the last 16 of the BDO World Professional Darts Championship in both 2006 and 2007. Scott Mitchell (darts Player)
Scott Mitchell (born 5 June 1970) is an English professional darts player who competes in World Seniors Darts (WSD) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He formerly competed in British Darts Organisation (BDO) and World Darts Federation (WDF) tournaments. He is a former BDO World Champion, having won the 2015 World Championship. Gary Robson (darts Player)
Gary "Big Robbo" Robson (born 19 June 1967) is an English professional darts player who plays in World Darts Federation events. Career Robson qualified twice for the World Championships, but was beaten in the first round on each occasion. He made it for a third time in 2004, but found himself 2–0 down in sets against Steve Coote. However, Robson recovered and took the match to a sudden death deciding leg, which he won. Bobby George commented that "you won't see browner darts in this tournament than that match". Robson had another excellent performance in losing to 'Silverback' Tony O'Shea in the second round. Jan Dekker
Jan Dekker (born 25 June 1990) is a Dutch former professional darts player. He reached the semi-finals of the BDO World Darts Championship twice, in 2011 and 2014. Career Dekker qualified for the televised stages of the 2010 Winmau World Masters. He played eventual champion Martin Adams in the last 16, and was beaten 2–3 after Adams won a sudden-death leg. Ross Montgomery
Ross Montgomery (born 16 October 1962), nicknamed The Boss, is a Scottish former professional darts player who competes in World Seniors Darts (WSD) events. He formerly participated in both World Darts Federation (WDF) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Tony O'Shea
Tony O'Shea (born 9 May 1961) is an English professional darts player. His squat figure has resulted in the nickname "Silverback". Alan Norris (darts Player)
Alan Norris (born 21 February 1972) is an English darts player. He was the runner-up at the 2014 BDO World Darts Championship and also lost in the final of the 2012 Zuiderduin Masters, with Stephen Bunting prevailing on both occasions.
