2012 Q School
The 2012 Q School was a series of three snooker tournaments held at the start of the 2012–13 snooker season. An event for amateur players, it served as a qualification event for a place on the professional World Snooker Tour for the following two seasons. The events took place in May 2012 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, England with a total 12 players qualifying via the three tournaments. Format The 2012 Q School consisted of three events with 12 qualification places available. The two events had 115 entries competing for the 12 places on the main tour, four players qualifying from each of the three events. All matches were the best of seven frames. Q School (snooker)
The Q School is an amateur snooker competition which serves as the qualification school for the World Snooker Tour. Overview Q School is established in 2011 as an attempt to streamline the qualification process and is held annually before the start of the professional season, where amateurs and ex-professionals who dropped out of the top 64 in Snooker world rankings, world rankings in previous seasons can compete for a two-year tour card to play on the Main Tour. It replaced the amateur tournament International Open Series, the former second-tier snooker series organised by the English Association of Snooker and Billiards (EASB). In 2022, a Q School branch in Bangkok was established for entrants from the Asia-Oceania region. 2 qualifying places were awarded to the winners whilst discontinuing qualification through Standings (sports), Order of Merit in Q School Europe. Daniel Wells (snooker Player)
Daniel Wells (born 31 July 1988) is a Welsh professional snooker player from Neath. He has twice come through Q School (snooker), Qualifying School to play on the professional snooker tour, and turned professional again at the beginning of the 2023–24 snooker season, 2023–24 season after placing top of the 2022–23 One Year Ranking List for players outside the top 64, despite competing as an amateur for the entire season. Mitchell Mann
Mitchell Dennis Mann (born 26 December 1991) is an English professional snooker player. Career Junior Mann first played snooker aged 9, after being forced to quit football after a diagnosis of Legg–Calvé–Perthes syndrome, a rare disease which rots the hip bone in young boys. The main highlight of his junior career was winning the Junior Pot Black in 2007, beating Jack Lisowski 76–23 in the final. Amateur In 2007–08, Mann at aged 15 began to play in the secondary International Open Series tour with eight places on the professional snooker tour on offer to the top eight in the end of season Order of Merit. Justin Astley
Justin Astley (born 20 May 1983) is an English former professional snooker player. He played on Challenge Tour The Challenge Tour, currently titled as the HotelPlanner Tour for sponsorship reasons and also sometimes referred to as the European Challenge Tour, is the second-tier men's professional golf tour in Europe. It is operated by the PGA European To ... in 2001/02, and first qualified for the Main Tour in 2002/03, but lost his place. Then he played on Challenge Tour again from 2003 to 2005. He returned for the 2005/2006 season, but he couldn't defend his place. In the 2009–10 season he reached the finals of the last two events of the International Open Series and was ranked seventh in the 2009/2010 PIOS rankings. As a result, Astley qualified for the 2010/2011 professional Main Tour, but dropped off at the end of the season. Fraser Patrick
Fraser Patrick (born 8 November 1985) is a Scottish former professional snooker player from Glasgow. Career Patrick started his professional career in 2002 by playing Challenge Tour, where he spent three seasons without success. In 2007 Patrick earned the Scottish nomination to make his Main Tour debut. Aside from Grand Prix, where he won four matches at the round-robin qualifying stage and finished third in his group, he was to struggle for wins during his debut season and was relegated from the tour. With the introduction of Q School, Patrick came agonisingly close to regaining his tour place, twice losing his final match both in 2011 and 2012. Nevertheless, thanks to his high Q School ranking Patrick was able to compete in all the major ranking tournaments of the 2012/13 season as an amateur. Joe Delaney (snooker Player)
Joseph Delaney (born 4 August 1972 in Dublin, Ireland), better known as Joe Delaney is an Irish former professional snooker player. Career Born in 1972, Delaney turned professional in 1991. He endured several barren seasons on the tour before losing his place in 1997, but re-qualified during the 1997/1998 season, notably reaching the last 48 stage of the 1998 World Championship. Robbie Williams (born 28 December 1986) is an England, English professional snooker player. Williams turned professional in 2012 after qualifying in Event 3 of the Q School and gained a two-year tour card for the 2012–13 snooker season, 2012/13 and 2013–14 snooker season, 2013/14 snooker seasons. Joel Walker (born 16 March 1994) is an English former professional snooker player. In 2010 he won the Rileys Future Stars competition and turned professional in 2012 through Q School. Career Amateur years In 2010 Walker won Rileys Future Stars competition, and won £5,000 and coaching sessions with Ronnie O'Sullivan. The same year he was invited to compete in the World Open. Gareth Allen (born 9 September 1988 in Mynydd Isa, near Buckley, Flintshire) is a Welsh former professional snooker player. Career Allen started playing snooker aged three, joining his local snooker club and playing on full sized table at twelve. Scott Donaldson (born 19 March 1994) is a Scottish professional snooker player. Donaldson turned professional in 2012 after winning the 2012 EBSA European Snooker Championship and gained a two-year tour card for the 2012–13 and 2013–14 snooker seasons.
