2012 Netball Superleague Season
The 2012 Netball Superleague season (known for sponsorship reasons as the Fiat Group Automobiles, FIAT Netball Superleague) was the seventh season of the Netball Superleague. The league was won by Northern Thunder (netball), Northern Thunder. In the 2012 Netball Superleague Grand Final, grand final Northern Thunder defeated Surrey Storm. 2012 saw the introduction of a new format, featuring three distinct phases, including a Showdown Weekend. Teams Following the conclusion of the 2011 Netball Superleague season, England Netball decided to cut the number of teams from nine to eight and, as a result, Glasgow Wildcats lost their place in the league. In addition, Leeds Carnegie (netball), Leeds Carnegie were re-branded as Yorkshire Jets. Regular season Phase 1 Phase 1 featured all eight teams playing a single round of matches in a league format. Janelle Lawson
Janelle Lawson (born 9 August 1987) is an Australian netball player. In 2012 she was a member of the Northern Thunder team that won the Netball Superleague title. During the Commonwealth Bank Trophy era she played for Perth Orioles and AIS Canberra Darters. During the ANZ Championship era she played for Queensland Firebirds and West Coast Fever. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules. Kathryn Ainsworth
Kathryn Ainsworth, also known as Katt Ainsworth, is an Australian netball player who played for Surrey Storm in the Netball Superleague. She was a member of the Storm teams that won Superleague titles in 2015 and 2016. Playing career Australia Ainsworth is originally from East Ballina/ Ballina, New South Wales and attended Southern Cross K-12. She initially played junior netball with the local association. Tamsin Greenway
Tamsin Greenway (born 6 October 1982) is a former England netball international. She was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 and 2015 Netball World Cups. Between 2006 and 2018 she played in eight Netball Superleague grand finals for three different teams – Team Bath, Surrey Storm and Wasps. Laura Malcolm (born 20 May 1991) is an English netball player who has been a co-captain of the national team. Rachel Dunn
Rachel Margaret Dunn (born 14 November 1982) is an English international netball player. Dunn debuted for the England national netball team in 2004 against South Africa, and was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games, and a silver medal at the 2010 World Netball Series.
